April in photos

What a week! Greenlight girls from all around the world certainly had their work cut out for them the past days: the Soutcoast team had a smashing g4g @Southcoast day, enjoying the fun in science together with roughly 150 young girls; the volunteers from DRC held a inspiring Parlement des Femmes event in Kinshasa and lastly the g4g HQ girls in Brussels did some mind-blowing scientific 'magic tricks' with the participants of the EXPOsciences concours in Brussels.

Anything is possible!
The campaign video has been launched

Thank you to all those who have contributed to our Anything is possible! campaign. The combined product of everyone's efforts has been launched on International Girls in ICT day, and is available for anyone to watch on YouTube. We urge you all to continue spreading the message and to motivate those around us that anything is possible!

Remember it is not too late to still send your contributions as we will keep this campaign going!

Celebrating International Girls in ICT Day
Starstruck by the amount of role models in one room!

On April 25th, EU commissioner Neelie Kroes said that, contrary to the famous words by Marilyn Monroe, it’s not diamonds, but ICT skills that are a girl’s best friend - and with armed ICT skills, the diamonds will follow!

CISCO CTO Monique Morrow, proposed that 'geek is chic' and we wholeheartedly agree with her! The International Girls’ in ICT Day, organised at the European Parliament in Brussels, progressed very rapidly with many inspiring and encouraging words from role models in science. An update from our scholarship girls in India
The girls got their first check

Last week the girls were a part of a small ceremony in their old high school and together with their parents, teachers and Chandana, who handed over the girls' first Scholarship Check. It was a great opportunity for the girls to have a chat with their former teachers and give share their impressions of the first semester at University.

Thank you for your donations and making all of this possible for these four bright young girls. Let's keep going and get them through their studies!

The EXPOsciences concours
The g4g team brush up on their French, Dutch and Spanish and Italian

The EXPOsciences is an annual, two-day event organised by the Jeunesses Scientifiques de Belgique and the Jeugd, Cultuur en Wetenschap vzw, at which Belgian students present their science projects to a jury panel composed of scientists and researchers. The grand prize is the opportunity to represent Belgium in similar events abroad. Winners of science concours held in different countries were also present to present their ingenious science projects and research proposals. From the international participants we had the pleasure to meet delegations from Malta, Italy, Russia and Mexico.

Our team of volunteers presented four 'kitchen science' experiments that can easily be repeated at home with simple household ingredients.  As always, young science enthousiasts were invited to experience the fun side of science with us, and to share what they learned with their families and teachers. Congratulations to the winners of the concours, we cannot wait until next year!

Support one of our two new projects

As you all know, it is Mother’s Day on May 12th! In celebration of this day Globalgiving.org is giving donors the option to show tribute to the wonderful women in their lives.
You can dedicate your donation to your mom and she will receive a personalised Mother's Day card from you, plus you can earn extra money for organisation you are donating too. This campaign ends on 12 May! We have two projects you can donate to with Globalgiving: the g4g Global Scholarship and Give girls a greenlight for science.

g4g visits the Royal Museum for Central Africa
Belgium's golden oldie, but not for long!

On April 18th, the g4g HQ team visited the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tevuren and received a private tour from professor Trefon, a researcher and Congo-expert at the museum.
The museum will soon close it's doors for an estimated three-year renovation period! So,
if you're in Belgium and in the vicinity of Tervuren make sure you pay a visit. Don't miss the chance to see the museum before it is completely revamped!
