Hello from The Keene Music Festival,

So, it's now April, and the first of the crocuses (croci??) are blooming right outside our secret hideout.  That means we're gearing up for this year's warm weather events.  Being that we're more than just our big gig on Labor Day Weekend, we have a whole bunch of stuff on tap for this year.

First and foremost, we have brandy new web site!!!  Please go check it out and let us know what your think.

Also, we had a great time working with WHAT's Keene to put together some live music in various local businesses as part of their event.

Now, we're gearing up for some mighty cool stuff this summer.  We'll be working with LIttle Zoe's Take & Bake Pizza to offer the Acoustic Slice series.  You can read about that down below.  We also have a little bit to tell you about one of the cool places in the area to see live music.

We're also opening a new venue in June, called George's Window.  This will be a family friendly venue that offers dinner and a show at an affordable price.

You can read about all of this below.

We are continuing our Chapel Series with a show on April 27, featuring Mark Mandeville & Raiannene Richards, Ian Fitzgerald, and Steve Pavao.  Rumor has it there might be cupcakes at the show..... Our thirteenth Keene Music Festival will be on Saturday, August 31st.  Unfortunately, due to construction issues, we will be putting the Robin Hood Park Series on hiatus until next year.

We believe in our community and in local and regional music.  We really hope you'll come out to our events, tell everyone you know about them, and help us to support local music.  We would also really love it if you'd consider supporting our efforts with a donation.  We're a real low budget operation, but we do need some funds to do what we do.   If you want to know more about that, drop a line; as I love talking about this....

Yours in the Music,

Kevin Dremel

News and Goings On:

George's Window:

George's Window hopes to be a family friendly, alcohol free, evening out that feature local and regional performers of many different styles.  Along with and excellent evening of music, guest will have the chance to enjoy a meal specifically paired to the concert by Alan Crofut of Unbridled Chocolates.  Meals will focus on locally sourced foods; and maybe we'll even have some guest chefs from time to time...

Along with good food and great music, we hope to offer childcare so that kids can have some fun while the show is going on.  Shows will be scheduled with the family in mind, making George's Window an affordable night out for the family.

A portion of the proceed from George's Window will go to support the work of Life Art.

And if you're wondering who George is; well, you'll just have to come by to find out.

We'll be posting the
schedule here as it comes on line in June

Wanna Hang Out With Us?

Much to the frustration of our associate director, I'm always looking for new avenues to explore in terms of venues and opportunities.  What we do gets done by a very small number of people; who believe in local music AND believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well.  If you have an interest in getting involved, drop us a note here.

Upcoming SHOWS:

The Sumner Knight Series:  5/27/13

Mark Mandeville & Raiannene Richards
Ian Fitzgerrald
Steve Paveo

We're so happy to announce our next show at the Sumner Knight Chapel.  Performers include:

Mark Mandeville & Raiannene Richards:  Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards are a folk duo from Massachusetts who sing songs which resonate with the lover of Americana and old country music, commanding familiar traditional melodies and poignant, introspective lyrics, and backing them with delicate arrangements on ukulele, clarinet, guitar and banjo.  Over the years, Mandeville & Richards have shared the stage with acts like John Gorka, Joan Osborne, Mustard's Retreat, Atwater & Donnely, Antje Duvekot, The Low Anthem, David Wax Museum and Brownbird.  For more information, go to:

Ian Fitzgerald:  Ian Fitzgerald is a writer and performer of American folk songs.  Ian has been playing shows around New England since 2004 and has independently released four albums of original material in that time.  Since early 2012, Ian has been joined by harmony vocalist Courtney Gallagher.  They can be heard together on Ian's latest album, No Time To Be Tender, which was released in February.  For more information, go to:

Steve Pavao:  Like A.P. Carter, Steve Pavao is the patriarch of a family band: the Pavao Family Band.  Steve's songs share with those of the Carter Family the conveyance of simple but timeless messages told with little adornment.  In addition, Steve often performs solo, as he did on his 2011 U.S. Northeast Spring Tour.  With Pavao Family Band, he has released the singles "Time To Go" b/w "Block Island Song" and "My Beautiful Friend" b/w "Confluence".  A solo rendition of "My Beautiful Friend" is also available on The Starving Artist compilation CD vol. 1. Steve regularly performs solo throughout the northeastern states, and does occasional shows with Pavao Family Band during summertime months and on other special occasions.   For more information, go to:

Little Zoe's Acoustic Slice:

Keene Music Festival is partnering with Little Zoe's Take & Bake Pizza to present the series Acoustic Slice.  Every Friday from 6:00PM to 7:30PM (weather permitting) there will be live acoustic music right outside their store at the Center of Keene.  You never know who might be playing, but you'll have the chance to hear some great music and pick up one of their most excellent pizzas. They'll even be selling slices during the show!  We'll be posting a schedule on the Keene Music Festival web site as it develops.  If you're a musician who'd like to be part of this, just drop us a note and well try to hook you up.

Main Crust Pizza Company:

We like to tell people about venues that support local music.  One of the newer places to hear good stuff is Main Crust Pizza Co. at 227 Main Street in Marlborough, NH.  Beside having great pizza and sandwiches, they feature live, local music twice a week.  On Tuesdays, there's an Open Mic from 8:00PM to 11:00PM.  Their Open Mic won the 2012 Cider Award for being the best in the area.  Every Saturday, they have live bands playing original music.  Besides being really nice folks, they have a broad interest in musical styles, and do a lot to support local musicians.  So if you get a chance, go support them too.  You can see their menu here, or go the their Facebook page to find out about their performance schedule.
