Honey Bees Arriving Saturday

We will be picking up two nucleus colonies from Jennifer Berry in Athens, GA, this Saturday to be installed in the new GT apiary on the roof of the Clough Commons building.  If you are interested in watching the installation, please email jennifer.leavey@cos.gatech.edu .  If you would like to be on the roof near the bees, please wear a white long-sleeved shirt and light colored pants (white, khaki, or light denim) and closed-toe shoes.  There are several beekeeping veils that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Anyone without protective equipment or who prefers not to be face-to-face with the bees can watch the installation from the window in an adjacent chemistry lab (It should be a pretty nice view!).  We plan to start the installation around 11am, and will meet near the elevators on the 5th floor of CULC.

GTUHBP will be at Earth Day Friday

The Georgia Tech Urban Honey Bee project will have an informational table at the GT Earth Day Celebration on Friday, April 19th from 10am-3pm.  Come by and learn more about the project, see components of a bee hive (sans bees) and try on a beekeeping veil!

GTUHBP demos at Kids@Kollege

GT Honey Bee volunteers gave a presentation about honey bee biology to dozens of Atlanta children and their families on Sunday, April 14th.  Kids@Kollege is a GT student organization that brings kids to campus to get them excited about higher education.
