president's proposed FY2014 budget
Take Action to Ensure Funding for Urban Forestry
The
President’s FY2014 Budget was released last week. To keep sequester cuts from reducing the impact of conservation efforts, ACTrees and its partner organizations of the Sustainable Urban Forests Coalition advocate for funding to be consistent with FY2012.
While the budget funds several important conservation programs, the Administration proposes a
20% decrease in the U.S. Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program. This program provides technical, financial, and educational assistance to thousands of communities across the U.S. through its funding of NGO's, state forestry agencies, and municipal projects. ACTrees and communities served by our Network benefit from Urban and Community Forestry Program assistance through indirect or direct funding.

What can
you do? Reach out to your Members of Congress and their staff to
advocate for continued funding in FY2014 of the Urban and Community Forestry Program at the current FY2012 level. This maintains funding for the Program at the FY2012 enacted level of $31.3 million rather than the proposed FY2014 level of $26.3 million.
