Alphabet of Sports Funding. ‘P’ is for…..

Peoples Health Trust

In order to maximise the long-term benefits of their funding they want projects to target those groups most at risk of poor health e.g. older people who are isolated, carers – including young carers, people with learning disabilities, people with dementia and younger people.

They want to help local communities throughout England, Scotland and Wales live longer healthier lives.

They aim to do this by supporting projects that tackle the early causes of ill health. For example, projects that:
  • improve the health and wellbeing of people
  • increase physical activity
  • improve the look and feel of local communities
  • improve transport within communities

Peter Harrison Foundation

This Programme is a nationwide one and applications are accepted from charities throughout the United Kingdom. The Trustees wish to support sporting activities or projects which provide opportunities for people who are disabled or otherwise disadvantaged to fulfil their potential and to develop other personal and life skills. Grants will often be “one off” grants for capital projects. We will, however, also consider revenue funding for a new project or if funding is key to the continuing success or survival of an established project.
The Trustees welcome applications for the following types of project;
  • Projects which provide a focus for skills development and confidence building through the medium of sport
  • Projects that have a strong training and/or educational theme within the sporting activity
  • Projects that provide sporting equipment or facilities for disabled or disadvantaged people
  • Projects with a high degree of community involvement
  • Projects that help to engage children or young people at risk of crime, truancy or addiction

Apply for Community Games Fund

Community Games are a way for you to bring your community together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by – and in celebration of – London 2012 and the Queen’s Jubilee year.

Community Games gives you the chance to be part of the London 2012 official legacy. But it’s also about bringing people together to try new sporting and arts activities and having loads of fun. Perhaps you’d like to do something for the kids at your local school in the summer holidays, or maybe you’d like everyone in your street to get to know each other better. You could organise a Games to celebrate a year since the London 2012 Games or perhaps take advantage of one of the Bank Holiday weekends to make sure this great year doesn’t just pass you by.
Many people have shown that Community Games can be organised for very little cost, and because of this County Sports Partnership across the Country have small pots of funding to offer community groups a grant towards the cost of their event.

In most cases groups just need to complete a short application form, providing details of their event and provide supporting documentation. This is a rolling programme.

Save money through sustainability tool

Everyone knows environmental sustainability is about saving the planet – but, for sports clubs, it can also be about saving money. Those are two good reasons why a sustainability tool has been developed by Sport England in collaboration with their partners at the England and Wales Cricket Board, Lawn Tennis Association, Rugby Football Union, Rugby Football League, England Hockey and the Football Association.

London Marathon charity delivers £4.3 million boost to local sport

The London Marathon Charitable Trust will donate more than £3.5 million to 91 projects in and around the capital, with a further £900,000 going to community legacy facilities after London 2012 during 2013, it revealed today.

This year's work brings the overall sum of grants made by the trust to date to nearly £50 million, helping more than 1,000 projects to build, preserve, refurbish or purchase sports and recreation facilities since the charity was set up in 1981.

Grants of between £7,000 and £250,000 have been awarded this year - the largest is being used to bring disused cricket facilities back into action and the smallest for fitness equipment for a gymnastics club - to help fund a wide variety of sports and recreation projects, including community groups, royal parks, local authorities, grassroots sports clubs, schools and local charities.
