Usually I am pretty zen about things people say - because if I am affected by what people think and say I am not using my energy to do what is best for me and my clients. However, I have been marinating over what I am sharing with you today for a week and decided that it's not sitting right with me and I am going to say something about it.

Recently I have seen people using the term "shameless self-promotion" in quite a few instances. Mostly in good humor. However, good humor or not, I have issues with it. You see, every business is first and foremost a marketing business - whether you like it or not - because if you are not getting the word out there about what you are offering (and what people can pay you for helping them), you are not selling. You may have an expensive hobby, but YOU DON'T HAVE A BUSINESS. Period. Sorry.

For a lot of us in the "helping profession" such as coaches and healers, marketing and promotion already make that "screechy" noise in the brain. Why do we want to add more negative connotation to it to make our subconscious mind even more resistant? Even just seeing such negative connotation around and using it in our conversations can tell our subconscious mind that "promotion" is something "bad". Why do we want to self-defeat by putting up more resistance to our success?

Makes no sense to me. Incongruence does not produce effective results.

Whether it's communication with others or just talking to yourself, put a positive spin on any marketing and promotion work you do. Align the activities with your value by seeing this essential component of doing business in a positive light. Don't let "marketing" hold you back.

Last thing I want to share with you - I am still amazed and feel immense gratitude everyday when I wake up or get out of yoga class, and see sales coming in without me "working" all day. That's the "glam" part of it.

BUT I did not just set up a website, stick a few sales pages up and hope for the best. I promote everyday. I share with my peeps how I can help them everyday. I communicate with my tribe though my newsletter every week. I do not sit on my bumbum and hope that clients will just show up. It does not work that way.
