Thanks for another successful May Fair

Spring was welcomed once again at Mulberry with the celebration of our annual May Fair. The yard and school was transformed with May Pole dancing, strolling musicians, children’s crafts, amazing vendors and a café that would make the French jealous!

May Fair was truly a success because so many hands pitched in to volunteer their time, skills, ideas and most of all their enthusiasm and caring for our school and this festival. Together we created an amazing day - thanks so very much for your support.

Patricia Weidmark and Crista Thor, CDC co-chairs

Patricia and Crista spent countless hours in the past few months ensuring that the 2013 May Fair was a lovely and seamless experience for all. Thanks to their hard work (and yours) the school made over $2700. This was our most financially successful May Fair to date. Thank you Crista and Patricia!

Jamie, Mulberry parent, and one half of the team behind the delicious lunch at May Fair

The Mulberry Cafe at May Fair

The success of May Fair 2013, held at Mulberry this past weekend, was no doubt punctuated by the simple, yet inspired menu of Mulberry family and Kingston catering team Amber Thom and Jamie Hodges of Epicurious Catering

The two worked very hard the week leading up to the Fair to procure locally grown, clean, quality foods (hormone and antibiotic free chicken from the Pig & Olive, local greens, cheeses and herbs) and prepare it at their kitchen located on Bagot Street.  They arrived at Mulberry on Saturday morning ready to serve lunch (over 275 plates of food!)  to hungry Fair attendees.  With quinoa salad, greens, barbecued chicken and baked pasta, there was something for every taste, adults and children alike.  Thanks to the couple's organization, and the excellent work of our volunteer servers, the lunch line ups flowed smoothly and nobody waited for long.  And if you weren't full after lunch, then you likely visited the dessert table, which was populated with delightful treats made by a band of many many fine bakers!  A satisfying finish to a delicious lunch.

On behalf of the Community Development Committee and the entire Mulberry community, thank you again to everyone who contributed to feeding us so well!

Dishwashing
Probably one of the most important jobs at these festivals is dishwashing. Thanks so much to Tim Crease and Ned Dickens for stepping in at the last minute to coordinate this and run this dirty job!!

Vendors
We would like extend a sincere thank you to all of the artisans and vendors that dedicated their Saturday to creating a wonderfully interesting & energetic market at our May Fair.  Friends and family are still speaking of the beautiful day and all of their amazing finds and are already looking forward to the market at Winter Fair!  We appreciated the flexibility of everyone during the deliberation on the weather and loved that all of you worked so willingly together to make indoors just as beautiful.  We look forward to meeting again!

For a list of all the vendors at the 2013 May Fair, see our website.

So many wonderful vendors were brought together and showcased so well by Lois Bulch. Thanks to Lois for all the time and energy and thought she put into the planning, and for the smooth transition of the vendors inside when the weather didn’t cooperate.

A huge thank you to Duncan Stevenson, and Tim Crease, for screenprinting and selling the FIRST ever Mulberry t-shirts. They made over $100 for the school!

Children's Crafts

Crown Craft and Dig for Treasure Craft
Thanks very much to Anne Marie, for all your work and time to ensure that our gem dig and crown craft were a success. The crafts are a big part of our celebration and we really appreciate all her efforts to organize and bring in the materials required. Thanks very much to everyone who donated vines for the crown craft, especially Christina B from Parent and Child who brought in a truck load.

Thank you also to Mitch, Ingo, Mike and Kara for digging, digging, digging the treasures into the sand pit, despite the very yucky weather on Friday evening.

Wood Craft
Thanks very much to Jamin George and Mitch Belanger for organizing and running an awesome boat craft! Their patience, knowledge and enthusiasm are so appreciated. Everyone really loved this craft – and we are looking forward to another amazing wood craft idea next year.

Thank you Michelle Doyle for donating the felt for the boat sails, and a great big thank you to Rain and Michelle for sewing all of the them!! What an effort!

Plant Sale
Rain Lill and Michelle Doyle did a wonderful job organizing and selling the plants. A great big thanks to Lois, Michelle and Rain for driving out to Cindy Emmons house and digging up many of the beautiful plants that were sold. A very special thank you to Cindy Emmons, Mulberry's bookkeeper, for donating so many plants from her garden!

Our 2nd Mulberry Baking Contest
Thank you to everyone who entered the baking contest, it was very hard to choose the winning desserts.  A very special thank you to our judges  Kris, Barb, Steve, Sadiqa, Harris, Caela, Eva & Elena who  discussed, tasted and deliberated for over an hour to decide the blue ribbon winners.

Congratulations to… Duncan Stevenson for winning the blue ribbon in the Gluten Free category for his delicious Kipferl cookies;
Maya and Arjun Ivimey for winning the blue ribbon ( for the second year) in the Chocolate category for their yummy chocolate layer cake;
Crista Thor and Kjell Bayne for winning the blue ribbon in the pie category for the very tasty mango pie.

Thanks very much to Tina and Rachel for organizing and setting up the Book and CD table, it looked wonderful and we made a nice bit of money for your efforts.

Thanks to Peelu for her volunteer coordinator duties of chasing down alumni and anyone else who hadn't signed  up for volunteer spots.

Thanks very much to Mulberry parent, Jeni, of
Jeni Photography, for capturing so many beautiful moments with your camera!

No one went thirsty thanks to Crista, Mike, and Jeni and Rick’s donation, and preparation of, that yummy lemonade!

Signs, signs, everywhere signs...thanks to Sam, who re-did most of them Saturday morning after the vendors moved inside.

Thank you, Lois, for making those beautiful decorative flags, although they didn't make it to the gates, they looked great inside in the hallway.

To all the students and faculty who practised and performed such beautiful music and may pole weaving, it was simply a beautiful sight to watch.

To those folks who showed up early and stayed late- setting up and then cleaning up, our heart felt thanks!

MAY FAIR MUSIC

May Fair would not be the same without the musicians who serenade us throughout the day. We have a very talented and generous community of musicians at Mulberry.  From alumni parents to current parents,
teachers, admin staff and community members and even "out-of-town" grandparents, they all contribute to the celebratory atmosphere. Thanks to Bonnie, Brian, Guilhem and Rob from Artango, Kyra and Tully, and Gary Rasberry.

If you would like to hear more by Gary, come out for the launch for his new family cd, What's the Big Idea?!?,  on Sunday, June 9th at Mulberry.
