June 2013

Since my last newsletter I sent out in March, I've been busy working on a couple of personal projects as well as shooting new client work, and I've also redesigned my website from the ground up!

I just recently published my new portfolio site, which has some of my favorite shots from the past as well as new work I've been shooting. My goal for the redesign was to make the site as clean and easy to use as possible. Click below to see the new stuff.

Over the past few months I've been shooting a personal project on triathletes. My friend Lou Cicchino travels around the country competing in triathlons, and he's been nice enough to let me shoot him while he trains around Colorado. Capturing what goes into the preparation for a race where someone is running, swimming and cycling exceptionally long distances has been a fun project to work on, and I'm looking forward to continuing this series of images.

Taking a detour from the kind of work I normally shoot, Country Living magazine recently gave me the opportunity to shoot The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado for an upcoming piece they're doing on historic hotels throughout the U.S. The Stanley Hotel is 104 years old and it's where Stephen King was staying in Room 217, the hotel's most haunted room, when he came up with the idea for The Shining.

The shoot took place midday on a Saturday, which was a challenge given the constant stream of weekend tour groups buzzing around as well as a wedding taking place, but it worked out and I was happy with what I captured. Look for some of these images in the upcoming July/August issue of Country Living.

One of my favorite publications to shoot for, This Is Fly, gave me the chance to shoot another feature for them, this time about fly fishing on the iconic Fryingpan River near Aspen, Colorado. The writer and I went out there for a day, driving 400 miles round trip and shooting photo and video for about 8 hours before getting back to Denver around midnight. With fish caught, trail mix eaten, and memory cards full, the story was successfully shot. Look for it in the June/July issue of This Is Fly coming out any day now.

Lately I've been interested in shooting video alongside the photo assignments I'm shooting. As I was shooting photos for the story in This Is Fly, I also shot a concept ad idea for Simms fishing products. My idea was to let the simplicity and solitude of being out there alone fly fishing, without cell service or any other distractions, speak for itself.

I'm looking forward to incorporating more video work into my photo assignments for clients down the road! Click below to watch the short edit.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my latest work, and don't hesitate to say hi! Talk to you soon-
