Dear <<First Name>>

Passionate about plants?

Over spring and summer 2013 Manor House PACT is offering the following training courses to help you learn about plants, develop your horticultural skills and improve your knowledge of gardening.

Introduction to Permaculture
This course is perfect if you are looking for ways to live more sustainably but are unsure of where to start. Permaculture is a way of designing our lives around a set of ethical principles using natural systems as inspiration to tread lightly on the earth. This course will give you a good understanding of Permaculture and help you formulate practical solutions which can be incorporated into your everyday life. The Introduction to Permaculture course is being run over a 2 day weekend, with the first course this weekend on Sat 18 / Sun 19 May 2013. Further courses will be run in June and July.

Creating a Forest Garden (Level 1 or 2 Award in Horticulture)
This is an exciting opportunity to learn about developing your own forest garden. This structured course is taught over twenty weeks and will take you through growing low-maintenance plants and using space and natural processes efficiently. We’ll teach you everything you need to know about designing and maintaining your own forest garden including soil fertility and identifying, propagating and eating plants. The first course gets underway on Tuesday 4 or Saturday 8 June.

We are committed to getting local people involved so priority bookings will be given for Manor House residents until two weeks before the course starts. There is a cost for the courses and there are concessionary rates available. For more information and for details on how to make a booking please visit the PACT website: www.manorhousepact.org.uk/forum/topics/manor-house-pact-open-spaces-training

Well London at Woodberry Down - You Decide!

Residents and local organisations are applying for Well London funding to run summer time activities that benefit people who live in the Woodberry Down area. Small grants of up to £500 for small or one-off type activities or larger grants up to £3000 are available for activities that contribute to the five priorities identified by residents:

·         Encouraging healthy eating
·         Promote mental health and wellbeing
·         Encourage the take up of physical activity
·         Promote the use of open spaces
·         Use of arts and cultural activities to bring the community together

Short-listed projects will be invited to present their ideas to residents who will vote on which ideas they like best. The projects that get the most votes win the money - on Sunday 19 May, 14.00 - 18.00 at the Redmond Community Centre.

Successful projects must run activities between the beginning of June and the end of September and must agree to promote the other Well London activities.

Celebrating 400 Hundred Years of the New River

 Share your New River stories…
Do you live, or have you ever lived, near the New River? Do you have memories and stories of the river, whether past or present?  Did you play by the river as a child? What’s your relationship with the river now? We’d love to hear from you.

We are local audio journalist Sarah Peters and painter Henny Beaumont. We’re collaborating on an exciting audio-visual documentary to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the New River. Manor House Development Trust is supporting the project, and we’re aiming to create an interactive app for mobile phones.

We are very keen to interview and photograph local residents across the generations, so please get in touch with us at: eyesandearsn16@gmail.com

We look forward to hearing from you.
