TRN Drops Hendrie
"I've never hated doing anything more in my life than this job." - Phil Hendrie The news is in all the trades, but not the whole story. Both TRN and
Phil's official statement dance around how the parties really feel. Though, Phil does take a veiled swipe at TRN when he says, "Hendrie remains open to terrestrial radio opportunities, but only those with strong sales, marketing and programming support."
As I revealed last year in one of these newsletters in October, Phil hated working for TRN, and there was audio posted online to prove it In it, he excoriated TRN's Mark Masters and railed against his job with TRN and the talk radio business in general. Anyone who listened to Phil's rant knew he was just waiting out the end of his contract and was going to bail - that's what he said he was planning to do.
At least this time around TRN gave stations some notice (Phil's last day is 6/25.), although as is typical, some stations did not receive calls from TRN and had to learn the news from industry trades. TRN has already announced that Roy Masters will be Phil's replacement. Roy Masters is 85. Probably not the best choice to attract young people to talk radio.
