A quarterly newsletter providing an overview of what is happening with the Metropolitan Houston club of Howard University Alumni Association

Message from the President and Vice President

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending Howard’s 2013 Commencement. I was invited to attend the President’s luncheon representing HUAA and the HUAC- Houston. The theme of the luncheon was REJUVENATION AND RENEWAL, since Howard University is undergoing a renaissance in new technology, academia, and building.

I am proud to say that HUAC - Houston has emerged as the #3 club in the nation for its dedication to community service, fundraising, recruitment, and overall club excellence. We are 1,000 Bison strong in the Houston metro area, and there is no reason why we should not have the top club in the country.

I would like to thank all of those who have joined, participated, and supported our organization as it benefits our beloved Alma mater. This next fiscal year we will support Howard University by recruiting the best and the brightest, donating more to our scholarship fund, community service, and by continuing to build a club beyond anything this region has ever seen. We urge you to be a part of it.

Bison Luv,

Elgin “Gino” Wells
2012-2014 President

This quarter we celebrated with several high school students and their families at an accepted students reception. During our Fall and Spring recruitment program we touched over 700 students! Our recruitment and outreach contributed to the 120+ Texas students accepted to Howard University.

By the conclusion of the reception nearly 100% of the students in attendance decided and financially committed to joining the Class of 2017. In addition to our recruitment program HUAC- Houston supported the HUAA National Read Across America campaign at Houston's Nehemiah Center and enjoyed a taste of Houston's art and culture scene at the Historic Ensemble Theater.

We look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming Bison Family Reunion picnic at Tom Bass Park. In previous years our Memorial Day picnic has received regional recognition and attendance, you want to be in the park! Invite your friends and family for a real Southern good time!

Sincerely,

Nadia Pinto

2012 -2014 Vice President

RECAP: HUAC-Houston and the HU Office of Admissions co-hosted a reception for newly accepted students in the Houston greater area.

Your amazing recruiting efforts resulted in several Houston students being accepted to Howard University in 2013.

Alumni present at the reception did an awesome job working to convert these acceptances to enrollments. We continue our involvement with Houston's new students at our Freshman Sendoff in July.
