Welcome to the Tech Girl Monthly - May Edition

April 25 was International Girls in ICT Day, so it feels like a good time to reflect on what's been going on with Teen Tech Girls since its launch on October 11, 2012 (International Day of the Girl).

Teen Tech Girls is working with a group of girls at Computers4Kids, helping them explore computing. This is the first time most of them have been exposed to programming and that's a problem because while they are excelling at getting a handle on HTML, CSS and JavaScript, their formal education has not made clear the value of this learning nor the pathways to the successful and fulfilling careers these skills enable.

Teen Tech Girls has also hosted monthly meetups at a local high school. The first meetup last November had just 1 teen girl in attendance and a very loose idea of what we wanted to accomplish. Now with a core group of girls, they are on a mission to learn website development, so they can create a website for a non-profit this summer.
