October 2014 Issue: The NAILing List
Neil Alexander's gigs and adventures

FALL is finally falling upon us, bringing with us the crunch of leaves, the smell of Cider and the Shocktober Silent Film gig at the Wherehouse in Newburgh. There are more than a handful of gigs coming up this month. Here's all the news that's fit to email:
Thursday October 9th 8:30 pm

Thunderhead Organ Trio

The Wherehouse Restaurant
119 Liberty St Newburgh NY

Keeping up with the demand for local shows, I've brought the ThunderHead Organ Trio to the Wherehouse in Newburgh for 3 shows this fall. The first one is Thursday October 9th.
The group is takes the concept of the organ trio in a new direction, drawing on many different influences and styles. The group explores the grittier, rockier side of the genre referencing groups like the original Tony Williams Lifetime and mines the jazz standard repertoire for obscure gems and deep cuts. The group features Joe Gil (trombone), Jason Furman (drums/sampler) and yours truly on keyboards.  No Cover, and the food is awesome. :) 8:30 pm!
Friday October 10th 7:00 pm

Peter Furlan Trio

Marcello's Ristorante
21 Lafayette Avenue, Suffern, NY
Another evening of the best in Live Jazz at Marcello's in Suffern, a well known spot for fine dinning. Featuring Peter Furlan (sax) and Ratzo Harris (bass), we'll be playing some of our favorite tunes and swinging up a storm. It's great hang, come fly with us. :)

Friday October 24th 11:55 pm
A Solo Live Radio Appearance

"Music With Space"
with Mike Hunter

WPRB 103.3 FM Princeton

I'm VERY psyched to be doing a Live Performance on this renowned weekly late nite radio show (it actually starts at Midnight, or 12 am, Saturday morning). The idea behind Music With Space with Mike Hunter  is "to play a variety of genres of music with aural length, width and breadth. Music with an expansive and dynamic nature. Music that is non-invasive and thought-provoking. A soundtrack to dreamy reflection and meditation. Consider this your escape from the “close up and in your face” sound that dominates mass market radio.” Please tune in via this link.
Saturday October 25th 10:00 pm

Shocktober at The Wherehouse presents

Scene ReSeen:
Electronic Music for Silent Films

The
Wherehouse
119 Liberty St, Newburgh New York

Every year at this time the days begin to grow shorter, the nights grow colder, the moon seems to grow brighter, the leaves turn their brilliant colors, and the veil between the worlds grows thin. And in the midst of this I lead a rag-tag fleet of road weary gear to the Wherehouse to do a live score to a Silent Horror film classic.  This event is known as Shocktober, and this year's film is The Headless Horseman staring Will Rogers. It takes place on October 26th at 5 pm & 8 pm; $5 cover comes with FREE POPCORN.
Let me say that again: FREE POPCORN.
Saturday November 1st 8:00 pm

Doma Na Rohu

24 Morton Street
(
Corner of 7th Ave South & Morton St), NYC

Saturday night in New York City?? You Betcha! With the Steven Frieder Trio. Steven (saxophones Bob Meyer (drums & cymbals) & I will be kicking out the uptempo Post-Bop burners in organ trio format at this hip new New York City venue. $10 minimum, and I hear the food is fantastic.
