XIV AIMC World Conference of Contemporary Mosaic

Dear Mosaiclowers,
I am very pleased to inform you all, that the European Commission Representation in Austria kindly supports the AIMC conference and accompanying exhibition in a real way - if not a financial way . We were given a written contribution for the catalogue and a member from the commission will speak at the opening ceremony of the exhibition on May 21st 2014.
More specifically we are allowed to use the Logo for all our printed matter as well as the website.
The conference regarding the speakers is fully booked. We are going to listen to at least 34 interesting lectures. There are still some enquiries, the latest coming from the University of Buenos Airesin Argentina. It is amazing to notice just how attractive “Contemporary Mosaic†is!
The “Vienna Tour†is absolutely fully booked. For those who are too late to join us on the tour but would like to share supper with us in a typical Viennese resturant in one of the northern suburbs, I shall try to organize (extra?) transportation from the hotel and back.
The date of the follow on exhibition is fixed for June 14th to July 30th 2014 in the Gallery of the “Glas Museum Weigelsdorfâ€, 40km south of Vienna. Please see the attached photos. As many of you know already, Mrs. Hilde Kuchler, participant of the conference and exhibition, is owner of the Gallery and museum and will help us in storing (free of charge,) the lighter and smaller pieces, which are sent to Vienna. She will bring them to the Architectural Centre on the morning of the May 20th and on May 26th collect those which will stay in Austria for the next exhibition.
Because there were not enough participants to hire a bus for the “Vienna by Night Tourâ€, I was instead able to accept the kind invitation of Mrs.Kuchler to visit the Glass Museum. This event shall take place on Thursday, May 22nd 2014 from 4,00 p.m. – 8,p.m. (Originally this time was reserved for the walking tour to see some modern mosaics, indicated on our website, klick program).
The bus will pick us up in the centre of Vienna, we pass southern Vienna and see a typical part of lower Austria, which gently connects here with the Hungarian landscape.
At the “Kuchlerhaus†, whose façade is totally covered by mosaic, we can see the beautiful gallery( ca 200qm), where our exhibition will be , as well as the wintergarden, which also can be used for our mosaics. At the Glass Museum, Mrs. Kuchler herself shall be our guide. The price of this trip shall be €10.00 per Person , including the bus trip and - thanks to Mrs. Kuchler - this is a very reduced entrance fee for the museum. Coffee/ tea and cake is also available for € 4,50.
Soon after 7 p.m. we will return to Vienna, to arrive at the Hotel Intercity at 8.00 p.m.

Οn March 29, 2014 in Ravenna, a series of events entitled, "Ines Morigi Berti - 100 Years of Mosaic" began. It is a tribute by the city of Ravenna in honor of the most long-standing mosaicist in mosaic history, who turned one hundred years-old on April 20, 2014.
The program consists of multiple events taking place throughout Europe.
Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 11:00 am, as part of the celebrations for the centenary of Madam Ines Morigi Berti, curated by the niArt Gallery of Ravenna, at the Permanent Gallery "Antonio Rocchi" at the historic seat of the State Institute of the Mosaic Art "Gino Severini" in Via Pietro Alighieri 8, in the presence of the city authorities, students and teachers and the headmaster Marcello Landi, inaugurated the exhibition entitled"Ines Morigi Berti and Antonio Rocchi, the pair continues" This part of the events presents some twenty works that trace the comradeship of a lifetime through the paintings of Antonio Rocchi (1916-2005) and the mosaic interpretations of the same paintings by Ines Morigi Berti. An opportunity for current students and former students who have lived these precious years, to celebrate these Masters.
In the evening, at 18.00 at niArt Gallery in via Anastagi 4a / 6, at the seat of the homonymous cultural association, will open the exhibition"Ines Morigi Berti and artists of the '900â€. 'Here we will enjoy the mosaic interpretations drawn from the works of Miro, Picasso, Severini, Campigli, Balthus, Dubuffet, Gentilini, Capogrossi.
The events are accompanied by a bilingual publication, Italian and English, with texts of the mayor and the councilor for culture, of Maria Rita Bentini, of Linda Kniffitz, of Marcello Landi, as well as with numerous other testimonials.
The publication (publishing house Stear, 150 images, 156 pages) describes and documents the life of Ines Morigi Berti, who in a hundred years has produced thousands of mosaics distributed on the four continents.
Friday at 11 am at the Academy of Fine Arts, in Via delle Industrie, will take place the inauguration of the exhibition "Ines Morigi Berti, a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna: the years of development and the first activitiy (1928 - 1948 )â€.
Attached is the detailed schedule of all the events that will take place, starting in Municipal Hall of the city of Ravenna on March 29, 2014 and concluding in Chartres on January 18, 2015.

The conference, organized within the framework of the European Project EX.PO. AUS (EXtension of POtentiality of UNESCO Sites) intends to establish a comparison between methods of conservation and restoration of mosaics and frescoes on the collaboration of some of the most influential scholars and technicians. In this regard, the conference will include several work sessions in which experts (invited talk), scholars and researchers will discuss various issues related to the practice of restoration of the mosaic and fresco. The program includes some contributions selected in the call for papers

The exhibition project "Mosaici contemporanei in Antichi Contesti" aims to realize a series of events where contemporary mosaic works and installations are set within a venue rich of suggestions as Cripta Rasponi and Garden of the Province of Ravenna is, in order to establish a dialogue between the ancient mosaic and the artistic expressions of our days.
Each exhibition find its inspiration in the theme of four seasons and the works exhibited enter in the permanent collection of Tamo Museum.
This is the turn of the mosaicist Giovanna Galli, born in Ravenna, living in France. Her works are strongly influenced by the technique of Ravenna school.
