Week of December 22, 2014 | KC Downtown Streetcar Construction Update

Crossroads Central Business District River Market

Highlights

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
KC Streetcar Constructors will be closed December 25-26 and December 31-January 1. Supervisors will drive the job site daily, and we will pick up as many cones as we can, while still maintaining a safe job site.  Happy Holidays!
SNOW
In the event of snow, it may be necessary to close some side streets to keep the roads safe for snow plows and the traveling public. Follow us on Twitter @kcstreetcar for the latest street closures and construction updates. 

This Week

CROSSROADS
Pershing to 20th
The next step is installing the "special track" that will allow the streetcar to switch from southbound to northbound track. Traffic control will remain in place until this track is installed. Timing is yet to be determined.  
20th to 17th
18th-20th: Northbound track work (east side of Main). Access to 20th, 19th and 18th from Main will be periodically closed during this work. Follow @kcstreetcar for the most up to date information. 
17th to Truman Road south
Northbound track work continues on east side of Main. Access to 16th and 17th from Main will be periodically closed during this work. Follow @kcstreetcar for the most up to date information. 

16th closed Baltimore-Main for non-streetcar related work
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
Truman Road north to 12th
Northbound track work from Truman Road north through 13th St. 
Closure: 14th Street, east of Main, starting December 29 or 30 and opening by Noon on December 31. Will be open at night.
12th to 10th
10th & Main: Private utility work continues. 10th, Baltimore to Main, remains one-way eastbound until the private utility work at all four corners of the intersection has been completed. Suggested pedestrian crossing at either 9th St or Petticoat Lane. Anticipated completion: February 2015. 

Petticoat & Main: Water work starting at Petticoat and working south on Main.
10th to 7th
10th & Main: Private utility work continues. 10th, Baltimore to Main, remains one-way eastbound until the private utility work at all four corners of the intersection has been completed. Suggested pedestrian crossing at either 9th St or Petticoat Lane. Anticipated completion: February 2015.

7th-9th: Water and sewer work. 
7th to Independence
No significant activity.
RIVER MARKET
5th, Delaware to Grand
Overhead cable foundation work in the sidewalks on the north and south side of the street. On-street parking is limited. 
Grand, 5th to 3rd
3rd and Grand: Water work.  
3rd, Delaware to Grand
Main line water work along 3rd St from Delaware to Grand. On-street parking is limited.  
Delaware, Independence to 3rd
4th & Delaware: Water work on 4th, at Delaware and heading east. Anticipate completion end of December. 

Delaware, 5th to Independence: Water work. Anticipated completion this week, though some brick restoration will remain. 
Grand to Vehicle Maintenance Facility
Pre-cast concrete wall panels to be delivered to the site in mid-December.
 

 


Anticipated completion of all private (third-party) utility work by Spring 2015. KC Streetcar Constructors' track work continues in the Crossroads and Power and Light District into January 2015.  Water/sewer work anticipated to be complete by late Spring 2015. Systems work, such as the overhead power system, will continue into Summer 2015.
About the Downtown Kansas City Streetcar Starter Line
The two-mile, north-south Downtown KC Streetcar will travel along Main Street and connect the River Market to Crown Center and Union Station, serving the Central Business District, the Crossroads Art District, and the Power and Light District, as well as numerous businesses, restaurants, art galleries, educational facilities and residents.

This weekly construction update provides weekly, at-a-glance information related to the streetcar construction that is taking place this week.  For more information, including upcoming work, check out the project website and follow the streetcar on Twitter (@kcstreetcar) and Facebook. All work activities and time frames are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. 

This update is organized into 12 construction segments, starting at the southern end of the project at Union Station and working north through the River Market.
