KC Streetcar Update | May 23, 2016

KC STREETCAR CARRIES MORE THAN 100,000 PASSENGERS
Kansas City keeps riding the KC Streetcar.  This past weekend was full of fun activities including Planet Comicon, the Downtown Open, and City Market weekend, just to name a few. And with those events, came passengers on the KC Streetcar. On Saturday, May 21, more than 12,000 riders boarded the streetcars, while Sunday saw more than 7,400 riders.
Typical operations call for three streetcars running the route during service hours.

During it’s first two weeks of operational service, the KC Streetcar carried more than 100,000 passengers.

The KC Streetcar operates daily with the following hours and is free to ride:
Monday - Thursday: 6:00am - midnight
Friday: 6:00am - 2:00am
Saturday: 7:00am - 2:00am
Sunday: 7:00am-10:00pm

Please note that this Sunday, May 29, the KC Streetcar will remain open until midnight to accommodate all riders, including those participating in Celebration at the Station
HOW TO RIDE THE KC STREETCAR

Now that the KC Streetcar is running, we have helpful tips to make your ride smooth and carefree.

The KC Streetcar operates 7 days a week along a 2 mile route on Main Street in downtown Kansas City.

With 16 stops along the way, it connects the City Market to the Union Station/Crown Center area, with stops in the Kansas City Power & Light District, Central Business
District, and the Crossroads Arts District. A typical wait time for a streetcar is between 10-15 minutes.

Beverages are allowed onboard as long as they have a lid, but food may not be eaten onboard the streetcar. Bikes, strollers and wheelchairs are welcome and can easily board the KC Streetcar using the middle doors, which offer level boarding at the platforms.
When approaching your stop, signal the operator by pressing one of the red buttons, which can be found at various points inside the streetcars.  Once the streetcar comes to a complete stop at the platform, push the illuminated green door button to engage the doors.

When a streetcar arrives at a stop, allow others to exit before boarding the streetcar.  Streetcars are quiet vehicles, powered by electricity. Remember to be mindful of where
you are and of the upcoming stops. There are route maps located at all stops and inside the streetcars to help orient you.

GO FOR A BIKE RIDE...AND USE THE KC STREETCAR

May is National Bike Month and Kansas City is very fortunate to have numerous bike awareness organizations such as BikeWalkKC and the Mid-America Regional Council to help encourage safe and fun bike adventures.

National bike month is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the benefits of bicycling, while bringing awareness to those who ride and growing new bike riders.

BikeWalkKC is encouraging Kansas Citians to try out any of the 37 B-cycle bike rental stations, starting at $3 per 30 minute ride. If you find yourself with your bike, or even taking your bike onboard the KC Streetcar, snap a pic and post it online with the hashtags #kcbikemonth and #whyIrideKC.
