It's been a busy time at Law for Life. We are delighted to introduce our new interactive Personal Independence Payment tool which helps claimants challenge a decision at the mandatory reconsideration stage. We have also published two new guides, one on how to win a PIP appeal and the other on how to use a grievance procedure to deal with discrimination and other problems at work.

You can also find information about our newest education and training partnership and a guest article on the role of legal empowerment as a path to social inclusion, featuring Nazdeek Co-Founder, Francesca Feruglio.

PIP Appeal

Our Advicenow service has recently published a new guide to dealing successfully with a Personal Independence Payment appeal – How to win a PIP appeal.

The guide takes you and your clients step by step through the process and offers guidance and practical advice on everything from how to decide whether to challenge the DWP’s decision, to how to prepare for the hearing and what to do on the day.

To accompany the guide we have also created an interactive tool which enables you and your clients to check what rate of PIP they should be getting and download a personalised letter to send to the DWP requesting a mandatory reconsideration.

We've had some great feedback so far:

Thank you so much for making this stressful process so easy and accessible! I am so impressed, I was prepared for a few days of research and planning in order to start an appeal but your website and tools are so useful and efficient that after a couple of hours, I am ready to go post my letter. Thank you!!! – Advicenow user

Have a look at our PIP Mandatory Request tool here. And please share it with your networks and let us know what you think too.

How to use a grievance procedure to deal with discrimination and other problems at work

In another new guide we explain what a grievance is, why someone might want to use a grievance procedure to resolve a problem at work, what to think about before making a complaint, what to do at each stage step by step, tips about what to put in a letter of complaint and information about how to appeal. You can find it here.

New Education Programme: Just Renting

We are working with Advice4Renters to create and deliver a new bespoke training course on issues in the private rented sector. From the basics of tenancy agreements to disrepair and dealing with stress and negotiating with landlords, the course builds the knowledge, skills and confidence tenants need to deal with legal issues in private housing. Course participants will volunteer as ‘Advice Friends’ in their local communities to support tenants experiencing such problems.

We need your help!

We know people like our Advicenow guides because we get lots of positive feedback about them. We hope to continue providing a substantial amount of quality information for free, but we will probably have to charge for downloads and printed copies of some or all of our guides at some point in the future. This will help us go on keeping them up to date and to develop more guides for you and your clients.

We have put together a short survey to help us find out whether you would be prepared to pay for our guides and, if so, how much and in what way. You can access it here. We would really appreciate your feedback and any help you can give to promote the survey more widely.
