Green Building Directory

Looking for a solar company to install panels on your home? Feeling inspired by a family of four living in a 500-square-foot home?

Our annual Green Building Directory provides resources and articles on building and living a greener and healthier life. Our members are highlighted in a user-friendly directory that enables you to connect with industry professionals that can help improve your existing home or create a dream home that is not only healthy for your family, but also healthy for our environment. The guide takes a comprehensive look at things like air quality, materials, site, energy efficient and water use.

Work on the 2016-2017 Directory is underway. The Directory will be released in August at our Annual Networking Celebration. As a benefit to all our Business and Non-profit members, you receive a basic listing at no cost.

In order to be listed in the Directory, please make sure your membership is current by July 1st. Contact Katie at katie@wncgbc.org or 828.254.1995 to renew. We partner with Smoky Mountain News to produce the Directory. Please contact Hylah at Hylah@smliv.com or 828.452.9283
to update any information in your listing or to purchase a display ad.

We disperse 25,000 copies throughout Western North Carolina and feature a digital version on our website. We're excited to connect folks to industry professionals and grow the green building community in our neck of the woods!

Meeting the Paris Climate Goals

Climate change will force the world to recalibrate energy supply and demand.

Last December's climate talks in Paris set an unprecedented achievement: limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius. As of April 26, 2016, 176 countries and the European Union have signed the Agreement. This commitment will require incredible progress in the transportation industry and the way we drive, how we construct residential and commercial buildings, and the way we produce energy.

Greenbiz.com and the folks at RMI look at what needs to be done to achieve this (which means a 3% improvement in energy productivity per year and a 1% decarbonization rate per year).

Legislative News

ACTION ALERT:
Bill 843

It's hard to believe that just after being voted #3 for business, a bill adding 10 pages of new permitting regulations to a thriving North Carolina industry arises.

Senate Bill 843 seeks to bring renewable energy development in NC - and the $4.9 billion in investments - to a halt. The bill creates countless new requirements and regulations. Even if landowners and businesses jump through all of these hoops, the NC Department of Environmental Quality may still deny the project.
