Hello!

Happy New Year! We hope that you've had a wonderful festive season!

The Serendipity team have been busy settling into their new home on campus at De Montfort University and are well under way with planning and preparations for all the exciting events happening in 2015. 

We are also very excited to welcome two new interns to the team; Celia and Hannah, who will be working with us over the next few weeks through the DMU Graduate Champions scheme.

The BHM Live programme, supporting the creation of new work by emerging Black artists is progressing, and more information about the artists and their work will be available on the Serendipity website soon.

The selection for Signatures, in partnership with Dance4 for LDIF 2015 has also taken place, and the full line up of participating artists will be announced soon.

We wish you all the best for a fantastic year ahead.

Let's Dance International Frontiers launches on International Dance Day (Wednesday 29 April) and runs from Friday 8 May - Monday 18 May 2015 with a fantastic programme of events showcasing the work of local, national and international choreographers both emerging and established.
Some elements of the programme have already been announced, with critically acclaimed dancer and choreographer Kyle Abraham and his company Abraham.In.Motion performing at Curve from 15-16 May with their UK debut. Stopgap's emerging artist company Sg2 will also performing an eclectic mix of dance miniatures at Embrace Arts.

Blurring Boundaries: Urban Street meets Contemporary Dance -  Call for Papers

Serendipity and De Montfort University are collaborating to hold a conference which will reflect on the current state of Hip-Hop, B-Boying and Urban Street dance with a particular focus on its presentation in theatres. It aims to embrace the myriad of influences and the continued global developments in this sector which is leading to a flourishing mix of diverse dance styles. We are invite submissions of abstracts of no more than 500 words for 20 minute talks or performative lectures which address the conference focus.

BHM Live is an exciting showcase celebrating all that the new generation of emerging Black artists has to offer. In what will be the platform’s third year, the diverse programme features work from across the art forms, including photography, cinematography, spoken word, dance and theatre. The participating artists have all been chosen on the strength of their concepts and with the support of the programme have worked to devise and showcase their work as they establish themselves in their careers as artists.

The BHM Live showcase is an event aimed at Industry Professionals including Producers, Programmers, Funders. If you are interested in attending, please email info@serendipity-uk.com, further information about participating artists will be avaliable on our website soon. 

BHM Live is a project by Serendipity, and supported by Curve, Arts Council England and Leicester City Council.

Paradigm Rhymes

Paradigm Rhymes is a new interdisciplinary theatre production combining live narration, a live jazz band, audience participation and 2D comic book illustration. Devised, composed and written by Marcus Joseph and Mellow Baku. Initially developed through BHM Live, Paradigm Rhymes will be performed at the Vault Festival in London in February. New Dance Floor needed for L'Acadco.

Jamaican based dance company L'Acadco are currently in the process of fundraising for renovations to their dance studio, which has suffered damage in hurricanes over recent years. They particularly are in need of a new, safe dance floor. If you think you can help, please get in touch.

Black History Month Launch: Call for Applications for a Male Jazz Singer

We are looking for a male Jazz Singer to support Jamaica's First Lady of Jazz, Myrna Hague at the Launch of Black History Month on Friday 25 September 2015. More details will be available soon, so keep a look out for more information.
