Week of January 26, 2015 | KC Downtown Streetcar Construction Update

Crossroads Central Business District River Market

Highlights

Vertical progress continues on the Singleton Yard. Starting the week of January 26, the more than 50 exterior precast wall panels start taking form with the help of a 133 foot crane. During this time, Holmes Rd between 2nd and 3rd is closed to thru traffic. 

This Week

CROSSROADS
Pershing to 20th
Continued track work on the Main St Viaduct is weather dependent. Upcoming work includes temporary roadway striping and track build and track pours. Anticipate work to start early February. 
20th to 17th
Ongoing OCS work on the east side of Main St from Truman Rd South to 18th St. Work will take place within the east side parking lane. 

Ongoing southbound track construction to start on westside of Main from 18th St - 20th St. Work is anticipated to take 4 weeks. 

Jan 26 - Jan. 29: 18th St closed to thru traffic between Baltimore and Main for southbound track work. Traffic detoured to 17th St and 20th St.

19th St closed to eastbound traffic between Main and Walnut due to Water Services work. Only one lane open for westbound traffic. THIS IS NOT STREETCAR RELATED.
17th to Truman Road south
Ongoing OCS work on the east side of Main St from Truman Rd South to 18th St. Work will take up the east side parking lane in this segment as well as sidewalks.

16th closed Baltimore-Main for non-streetcar related work
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
Truman Road north to 12th
Ongoing Overhead Catenary System work ongoing between Truman Road North and 14th Street. 
12th to 10th
Private Utility Work:
Private utility work is now on the southwest and northwest corners of 10th and Main St. 10th St is closed between Baltimore - Main. Petticoat is reopened.

Water Work: 
Water and sewer work along Main St from 9th to 7th St. 9th St is closed between Main and Walnut.
10th to 7th
Private Utility Work:
10th & Main: Private utility work is now on the southwest and northwest corners of 10th and Main
10th St. is closed to thru traffic between Baltimore - Main. Open to the KCATA Metro buses and transit center only. No on-street parking along 10th St.  Anticipate completion this week. 

10th & Main is an active work zone. Please use designed pedestrian crossing at southwest corner of 10th and Main. Also use suggested pedestrian crossing at either 9th St or Petticoat Lane.

Water & Sewer Work:
Work along Main St between 9th-7th. Intermittent lane closures will occur but there will be one lane of traffic in each direction on Main St. maintained at all times. 

9th St closed between Main-Walnut
7th to Independence
No significant activity.
RIVER MARKET
5th, Delaware to Grand
Track work at 5th and Delaware. Work is anticipated to take 4 weeks.
  • 5th Street open eastbound only from Delaware to just west of Main . The eastern entrance to the City Market parking lot will be accessible from the west and the east. 5th Street will remain this way until track construction on Delaware is complete, which will be the second week of March.
  • Jan 27: Intermittent lane closures on Independence at Delaware to accommodate track slab pour. Traffic will be flagged through one lane of traffic on the north side of Independence.  
  • Southbound Delaware between 5th and Independence is reopened to traffic
Grand, 5th to 3rd
Traffic signal work ongoing at the intersection of 3rd and Grand. Work will affect all four corners eventually. Water work ongoing along 3rd St between Grand and Delaware. 3rd St will remain open to two-way traffic but on-street parking is limited.
3rd, Delaware to Grand
Main line water work along 3rd St from Delaware to Grand. On-street parking is limited.  Main St between 2nd and 3rd currently closed to thru traffic.
Delaware, Independence to 3rd
Water Work:
  • 4th & Wyandotte: Water main valve work to complete week of Jan 26. 
  • Brick restoration on 4th St, east of Delaware, to start Jan 29. 
Track Work:
  • Delaware, between 5th and Independence, northbound track work starting week of January 12. Work anticipated to last 4 weeks.
  • Track Pour on Independence, January 27.
The traffic pattern for this portion of Delaware is as follows:
  • Delaware St. closed to northbound traffic between Independence and 5th St.
  • 5th Street open eastbound only from Delaware to just west of Main. The eastern entrance to the City Market parking is accessible from the west and the east.
  • 5th Street will remain this way until track construction on all of Delaware is complete, which will be the second week of March.
  • Jan 27: Intermittent lane closures on Independence at Delaware to accommodate track slab pour. Traffic will be flagged through one lane of traffic on the north side of Independence.  
Grand to Vehicle Maintenance Facility (Singleton Yard)
Week of Jan 26: Placement of exterior precast wall panels. 
Week of Feb. 2: Additional structural slab pours. 

 

Anticipated completion of all private (third-party) utility work by Spring 2015. KC Streetcar Constructors' track work continues in the River Market, Crossroads and Power and Light District into February 2015.  Water/sewer work anticipated to be complete by late Spring 2015. Systems work, such as the overhead power system, will continue into Summer 2015.
About the Downtown Kansas City Streetcar Starter Line
The two-mile, north-south Downtown KC Streetcar will travel along Main Street and connect the River Market to Crown Center and Union Station, serving the Central Business District, the Crossroads Art District, and the Power and Light District, as well as numerous businesses, restaurants, art galleries, educational facilities and residents.

This update is organized into 12 construction segments, starting at the southern end of the project at Union Station and working north through the River Market.
