So what has been happening at dft? |
|
|
Another busy few months have passed since the last newsletter. First of all, our sales and service teams have working industriously, delivering new technology to customers in America, Slovenia and Norway – as well as providing regular support to our established customers and moving office just before the Christmas holiday period! Our research and development teams have also been hard at work , preparing for the biggest broadcast exhibition in the world – NAB – where we’ll be launching a number of new features for Scanity HDR – we hope you will find them as exciting as we do! |

What’s new for NAB |
|

|
It might seem like a long way off, but believe us, it comes around very quickly every year! This year, we are showcasing in the South Lower Hall (SL13605) a number of new features that expand Scanity’s capability, enabling it to handle more film formats in ever-difficult conditions. Key developments this year are:
- New Wet-gate system - specifically designed to provide a real-time organic solution for the ingest and management of difficult to solve historical film transfer issues.
- New 16mm/ 8mm small gauge film gate – a small gauge film gate strategy will be demonstrated at the show.

RTV Slovenia installs dft’s Scanity |
|
| |
Slovenia's National public broadcasting organisation, Radio-Television Slovenia, has recently installed Scanity. As a public broadcasting service, RTV is responsible not only for the creation and broadcasting of National TV and radio programmes, but their archiving as well. The new Scanity was purchased to work on a major project to digitally restore many films for the archive which comprises 90,000 video tapes and 20,000,000 meters of film, many in 16mm and S16mm formats – in addition to thousands of photos and other related documentation.
RTV Slovenia worked with Slovenian systems integrators, RAP-ing, to deliver a system that met RTV’s requirements. The system solution included Scale Logic’s Genesis RX SAN storage platform, chosen for its ability to provide cost effective, scalable data storage for real time, multi-stream 2K and 4K workflows. |

A new UK service office |
| |
|

|
The UK service team has relocated to a bigger office in the heart of London. The new office is just a stone’s throw from many of our London-based customers, and as it is bigger than the old one on Oxford Street, the team can now hold more stocks of spares and replacement components.
You can contact the team on the same telephone numbers as before, it is just the address that has changed. Feel free to drop by for a coffee if you are passing!

- Scanity used in restoration of lost 1927 Disney film found in Norway |

A copy of a 1927 Walt Disney cartoon which was thought to be lost has been found in northern Norway, by the country’s National Library. The film – an almost complete version of Empty Socks, the first Christmas film by the US entertainment giant – was discovered during an inventory at the library’s facility in Mo I Rana, near the Arctic circle.
Martin Weiss, from the National Library of Norway commented “Scanity enabled us to scan material that would have otherwise been lost (as it could not be restored in an analogue way). It also lets us preserve as much of the film as possible, by allowing us to overscan; scanning the frame and other information that is around the picture frame without a resolution penalty.”

This time, we’d like to know which film gauges you work with.
