Week of April 20, 2015 | KC Downtown Streetcar Construction Update


PARTY AT THE PLATFORM
 
On Friday, April 24, join with Mayor Sly James, the KC Streetcar Authority and the KC Streetcar Constructors in celebration of the first constructed KC Streetcar Stop. The Platform Party starts at 5:00pm at 1610 Main Street with food and beverages provided by Anton's Taproom and Nara Restaurants. Read more about the event on our website

CROSSROADS
  • Truman Rd South North lane closed between Baltimore-Main. (power station)
  • Lane shifts on east and west sides of Main between 16th-17th St. (station platforms)
  • West side parking lane restrictions on Main St from 16th - 20th St. (WiFi and systems)
  • Traffic is now on the east side on the Main St Viaduct, south of 20th St. (track). Dedicated lane for Bus loading and unloading only on the east side.
  • NON-STREETCAR WORK taking place on the east and west sides of Main St south of 20th in the sidewalks. This is vault and sidewalk repair work not related to Streetcar work.
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
  • 4/21: 7th St and 8th St between Baltimore-Main closed (track and systems)
  • 4/22: 10th St between Baltimore-Main closed to all traffic EXCEPT westbound KCATA buses. Reopen by end of day. (track)
  • 4/22: 7th St between Baltimore-Main closed (track)
  • 4/23: 7th St to reopen. 9th St between Baltimore-Main closed (track)
  • 10th St between Baltimore - Main remains eastbound ONLY until all work in the area is complete.
  • Southbound lane closure on Main from Petticoat - 11th. 
  • 6th - 10th lane shifts. (systems and track)
  • I-70 at Delaware Bridge, east sidewalk closure. (track)
RIVER MARKET
  • 4/21 - 4/23: Overhead Contact System pole installation along 5th St from Delaware to Grand. During work, two-way traffic will be pushed to the south side of 5th St and maintained with flaggers.  There will be limited on-street parking on the north side of 5th St from Walnut to Main but no parking on 5th St from Walnut to Grand. 
  • Continued sidewalk and curb restoration work on Delaware between 3rd - Independence and along 5th St. (track)
  • Right lane closure of Independence at Delaware. (curb & sidewalk restoration)
  • Delaware Bridge track lanes closed and east sidewalk closed. (track)

 

First station platform construction is underway with completion anticipated in late April 2015. Anticipated completion of all private (third-party) utility work is Spring 2015. KC Streetcar Constructors' track work continues in the Power and Light District into May 2015.  Water/sewer work anticipated to be complete by late Spring 2015. Systems work, such as the overhead power system, will continue through Summer 2015.
About the Downtown Kansas City Streetcar Starter Line
The two-mile, north-south Downtown KC Streetcar will travel along Main Street and connect the River Market to Crown Center and Union Station, serving the Central Business District, the Crossroads Art District, and the Power and Light District, as well as numerous businesses, restaurants, art galleries, educational facilities and residents.
