Week of April 27, 2015 | KC Downtown Streetcar Construction Update

Track work is underway in the Central Business District.  Track crews are working on the southbound tracks between 7th and 12th Streets on the westside of Main Street and anticipated to take three weeks to complete.  

In addition to track work, crews will also be working on electrical 
components including installing traffic signal conduit, WiFi and drilling OCS pole foundations in this segment. Traffic will be congested in this area during work. Please check the construction map on www.kcstreetcar.org and our twitter feed (@kcstreetcar) daily for road closures updates.

CROSSROADS
  • Truman Rd South North lane closed between Baltimore-Main. (power station)
  • Lane shifts on east and west sides of Main between 16th-17th St. (station platform)
  • West side parking lane restrictions on Main St from 16th - 20th St. (WiFi and systems)
  • Traffic is now on the east side on the Main St Viaduct, south of 20th St. (track). Dedicated lane for Bus loading and unloading only on the east side. Work includes track turnout construction and installation of OCS poles week of May 4. 
  • NON-STREETCAR WORK taking place on 20th St between McGee and SW Blvd. Work being performed by the Water Services Department and anticipated to take two months. o
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
  • Track work complete in Power & Light District. Ongoing work for Overhead Contact System poles and electrical systems. 
  • Week of 5/4: roadway panel removal in-between curb and track slab, from Truman Rd North to 12th St. 
  • KCATA Transit Center turn around closed during track work.
  • 4/24 - 4/28: 7th St closed between Main-Baltimore. 
  • 4/27: 10th St closed between west bound Main-Baltimore. Open eastbound only.
  • 4/27 - 4/29: 8th St closed between Main-Baltimore. 
  • 4/28: 11th St closed between Main-Baltimore. Reopen by 7:00pm.
  • 4/29: 9th St closed to east bound traffic between Main-Baltimore. Open westbound only. 
  • 4/29 - 5/1: 12th St closed one lane between Main-Baltimore. Reopen by 7:00pm. 
  • 4/30-5/1: Work in front of the Main St Garage at 1034 Main St. Access will be limited at this location.
  • City Center Square Parking Garage will have alternating access points this week.  Please look for signage in the area.
  • Southbound lane closure on Main from Petticoat - 11th. 
  • 6th - 10th lane shifts. (systems and track)
  • I-70 at Delaware Bridge, east sidewalk closure. (track)
  • *Please take note of any Rider Notices from the KCATA. Bus pick-up and drop-off locations will shift. 
RIVER MARKET
  • 4/27 - 5/1: Overhead Contact System pole installation along Grand between 2nd - 5th St. On-street parking will be limited. (systems)
  • 4/28-4/29: 3rd St roadway striping including crosswalks and parking lines. On-street parking will be limited.
  • ADA curb and ramp work at 5th & Main; 5th & Walnut; 3rd & Main; 3rd & Walnut; 3rd & Delaware
  • Delaware Bridge track lanes closed and east sidewalk closed. (track)
  • 4/27 - 5/1: Grand closed to northbound traffic between 5th & Missouri. (water)

 

First station platform construction is complete with other platforms under construction. Anticipated completion of all private (third-party) utility work is Spring 2015. KC Streetcar Constructors' track work continues in the Power and Light District into May 2015.  Water/sewer work anticipated to be complete by late Spring 2015. Systems work, such as the overhead power system, will continue through Summer 2015.
About the Downtown Kansas City Streetcar Starter Line
The two-mile, north-south Downtown KC Streetcar will travel along Main Street and connect the River Market to Crown Center and Union Station, serving the Central Business District, the Crossroads Art District, and the Power and Light District, as well as numerous businesses, restaurants, art galleries, educational facilities and residents.
