Week of June 22, 2015 | KC Downtown Streetcar Construction Update

Main Street Closed This Saturday



KC Streetcar Constructors will work this weekend on two of the last segments of track.  Work will require the short-term closure of Main Street and East 9th Street.  
On Saturday, June 27, 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Main Street between 8th and 9th Street will close due to track construction.  Additionally, 9th Street will close between Main and Walnut starting Saturday, June 27 at 6:00 a.m. until Monday, June 29 at 6:00 a.m.  8th Street will remain open this weekend. Please see the helpful map of the downtown closures on the KC Streetcar website. 




Currently, traffic is extremely congested in the Central Business District between 8th - 12th Streets and in the River Market area. Please check the construction map on www.kcstreetcar.org and our twitter feed (@kcstreetcar) daily for road closures updates.  Currently 3rd is closed from Walnut-Grand ; Grand is open to southbound traffic only from 2nd St - 4th St; Main St is closed this Saturday, June 27, 6:00am-7:00pm; 9th Street is closed June 27-June 29, 6:00am-6:00am,  and 13th is closed this weekend from Main-Baltimore.

CROSSROADS
  • Lane shifts on east side of Main between Truman Rd South & 16th St for corner restoration. 
  • Restoration work at the corners of 17th & Main.
  • Traffic signal replacements and restoration work at the corners of 19th & Main. Look for lane shifts. 
  • 5/26 - 7/3: Station stop platform work on northeast corner of 19th & Main. East lane closed. Traffic shifted to the west. 
  • Track turnout construction & pour on Main St Viaduct.  Traffic pushed to the center of Main, south of 20th St. Dedicated lane for Bus loading and unloading only on the east side.
  • 6/29 - 7/3: OCS pole catenary arm and overhead cable installation on the east side of Main St from Truman Rd South - 20th St. Traffic pushed to the center and west lanes. No parking within work zones or on tracks during work. 
  • NON-STREETCAR WORK taking place on 20th St between McGee and SW Blvd. Work being performed by Kansas City's Water Services Department and anticipated to take two months. 
  • NON-STREETCAR WORK traffic signal work taking place at 19th & Grand. Work will impact sidewalks and curb lanes. Work being performed by Kansas City's Public Works Department with Mark One Electric.  
  • NON-STREETCAR WORK taking place south of Pershing and Main. This is related to water work. 
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
  • I-70 at Delaware Bridge, east sidewalk closure. (track)
  • 6/26: Overhead Cross Span installs on Delaware Bridge.
  • Northbound track work from Delaware Bridge - 12th St. 
    • 6/27: Main St closed 6am - 7pm
    • 6/27-6/29: 9th St closed 6am-6am
    • 8th St reopened for the weekend. 
    • Lane shifts near 9th, 10th & Petticoat. 
  • KCATA Transit Center turn around closed during track work.
  • 10th St closed between west bound Main-Baltimore. Open eastbound only. Bus loading zone relocated on 10th St between Baltimore-Main. (track)
  • Ongoing work for Overhead Contact System poles and electrical systems in the Power & Light District between 13th-14th Streets and in the Central Business District. 
  • 6/22 - 6/29: 13th St closed between Main-Baltimore. This is for roadway restoration work. 
  • *Please take note of any Rider Notices from the KCATA. Bus pick-up and drop-off locations may shift. 
RIVER MARKET
  • 3rd & Grand track work. 3rd St closed, Grand-Walnut, and Grand closed, 3rd-Missouri. 
  • Grand closed to northbound traffic between 2nd & 3rd for systems work and 3rd - 4th for track work.  * Please note that the KCATA Bus and Mega Coach Bus drop-off/pick-up location on Grand has moved to 3rd & Oak.  
  • Corner restoration work ongoing at 3rd & Delaware
  • Overhead Systems work at the corner of Delaware and Independence.
  • 6/25: Installation of overhead cross spans on 3rd St between Delaware and Grand. No park on 3rd St during this work. 
  • Station stop build at 5th and Walnut. Work includes curb and sidewalk restoration on the southwest corner of 5th & Walnut.
    • No parking along 5th St between Walnut - Main during the weekdays. 
    • Two-way traffic on 5th St will be maintained.
    • Parking on 5th will return on the weekends. 

 

Streetcar platform construction is ongoing. Anticipated completion of all private (third-party) utility work is early Summer 2015. KC Streetcar Constructors' track work continues in the Central Business District through July 2015.  Water/sewer work anticipated to be complete by late June/early July 2015. Systems work, such as the overhead power system, will continue through Summer 2015.
About the Downtown Kansas City Streetcar Starter Line
The two-mile, north-south Downtown KC Streetcar will travel along Main Street and connect the River Market to Crown Center and Union Station, serving the Central Business District, the Crossroads Art District, and the Power and Light District, as well as numerous businesses, restaurants, art galleries, educational facilities and residents.
