April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and Chief Peña will discuss the dangers of distracted driving and the HFD and State Farm’s “Teen Driver Safety” program.
The "Teen Driver Safety" program includes pedal karts and distractions to simulate divided attention and “drunk” goggles to simulate cognitive distraction while teens operate the pedal karts. The experience teaches teens (without any lectures) that their perceptions and response times are far different from what they believed those would be if driving distracted, while intoxicated, or while under the influence of drugs.
For additional information about this program, visit the HFD website at http://houstontx.gov/fire/community_interaction/teendriversafety.html
In addition to the Teen Driver Safety Program, State Farm has continually partnered with HFD to address public safety and prevention, including public service announcement billboards and commercials, and life safety guide books.
