Software Update News:
In August we delivered the 31st update of the software since its initial launch in June, 2014. Remember – since CloudCalc is delivered on the cloud, you are automatically up to date every time every time you access the software, without having to install anything new. Our updates are always upward compatible, so you never have to convert old models to run on the latest version of the software.
- Version 1.02.11 – Optimization for Larger Models
The highlight of this release is the optimization of the program to handle larger (hundreds or thousands of elements) models better and faster.

In order to ensure that there is no practical limit to the size of the model that CloudCalc can handle, we have optimized the software to speed up nearly all aspects of the cloud-based process, from the data transfer, to the structural analysis calculations themselves, to the internal data manipulation, to the display of results. The cumulative effect is that we are observing decreases in the analysis times of larger models in excess of 90%.

I originally started this blog with the intent of chronicling my experiences launching a cloud-based startup in the structural engineering domain. Lately I’ve met only half of that promise, producing lots of articles about different facets of structural engineering, but very few in the area of internet startups. (It may be some kind of aversion-bias, based on the fact that the former – structural engineering – is so much easier than successfully pulling off a cloud-based startup.)
