End of summer? Don't despair, we have four reasons for you to be an excited One Degree supporter!

Reason no.1 - Our 2016 programme results are in
Reason no.2 - You can still get involved with our alumni
Reason no.3 - It's only 2 weeks to our annual graduation
Reason no.4 - It's almost time to start mentoring again

Please do also take a look towards the end of this newsletter to find out how you can spread the word and help us create even more impact in the our next programme.

Results are in...and they are amazing!

Let's break it down
Using a combination of foretasted results and mock exams our students had their work cut for them with a 19.5% likelihood of achieving an A-C grade for English. The students, our teachers and mentors were certainly up to the task as we reached a phenomenal 87.8%.
It seemed that with Maths we had a little bit of a head start with predicted passes sitting at 43.9%.
Our student, mentors and teachers were again up for the challenge securing 61%.
In summary, with predicted passes dropping to 31.7% following mock exams, Woodside High School reached 74% (30% increased from 2015 when it was 44%) and One Degree achieved our best results ever, 74.4%.

How does this compare nationally?

  • The overall proportion of entries achieving A* to C declined from 69% to 66.9%.
  • Top A* grades slipped from 6.6% to 6.5%.
  • In England in particular, the proportion of A* to C grades fell from 68.8% last year to 66.6%.
  • The gender gap has widened further - with 71.3% of entries by girls getting a C grade or above compared with 62.4% of boys.
  • Maths was the only subject in which boys received a higher proportion of the grades – outperforming girls by 0.7 percentage points at A*-A and 0.5 percentage points at A*-C.
How ever you look at it, our students, mentors and teachers did an exceptional job this year.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

What's next for our 2016 students?

It has been a summer filled with work experiences and volunteering for a lot of our most recent cohort.

Google work experience day:

"I feel as though the experience at Google was extremely positive. It helped me to understand that it takes loads of people - 60k to be exact based in the UK sector of Google." Savannah. 2016 student

"The experience was eye opening. You expect offices to be dull and boring, Google flipped this perspective creating enthused workers who can relax whilst doing optimum work for the company.  I would definitely advise others to take these opportunities networking and gaining personal experiences will help you in the future." Domonyc, 2014 student

LinkedIn work experience day:

LinkedIn was such an amazing experience. The office is full of inspiring individuals, LinkedIn also has employees from all over the world which sets a very multicultural atmosphere boosting the energy around the office." Artur, 2016 student

If you would like to host a few students at your company for a day or more please get in touch. It's all about exposure and options.

Our Autumn programme is back!

While we finalise the details for our next programme, please start to have a look at your availability to join us this autumn. We are aiming for 5-10 sessions on Saturdays running in October, November and December 2016. This will be a build-up to our spring programme, consisting of 15 weekend sessions, planned for February to June 2017.

Spread the word...

With six schools from five different boroughs wanting us to work with them for the 2016/2017 school year,  we have the opportunity to work with the same amount of students in one year that we have worked with since 2009! However, we simply do not have the capacity at present to make this scale of impact. You can help...
