The Patient and Carer voice of Heart Failure

Pumping Marvellous
Fast and Furious Month

It has certainly been a hectic month for everybody involved with Pumping Marvellous but this is a good thing. The Trustees have agreed long term goals and strategies for Pumping Marvellous and have worked out a plan of events and initiatives that will drive these goals over the next 12 months. A number of these initiatives rely on Pumping Marvellous achieving grants but we are confident we have a great case and the right solution.

You can see a list of our goals on our new more corporate website PumpingMarvellous.org

Oh and by the way we do have a new website www.pumpingmarvellous.org - which is nearly ready, the old website www.pumpingmarvellous.com is still churning away and is attracting an average of 40 unique visitors per day,  when we started we were attracting an average of 5 so we are growing and yesterday we hit 95 wow!!

Anyway here is the list of things to do over the next 12 months and we won't stop there. These are in order of completion.

  1. Blackpool and Fylde NHS Trust - managing the way forward - We have been approached by the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospital Trust to help with the support of their Heart Failure patients, we will update you when we have more information.
  2.  Developing the new website and social media strategy - We have developed a new website, the old website is still going great guns and will remain the main source of information.  - -  -
  3. A marvellous video production for Heart Failure patients - yep you heard it here first! we are going to Hollywood, well something like that. You will be able to view this on YouTube, our website and we will be lobbying to get it into GP surgeries and of course we will be distributing this to all Heart Failure Patients in a DVD format.
  4.  Supporting Kate Cains sons nursery. Kate works in CCU at the Royal Blackburn Hospital and she approached Pumping Marvellous on behalf of the Nursery in Rosegrove, Burnley. We came up with a cunning plan and if successful will look at doing it with other children. This is the plan, we will be working with Beth, Laura and the healthy lifestyle team to build awareness to the young children as to what a healthy lifestyle looks like, we will be throwing in a competition linked to sponsorship so they raise some money for Heart Failure Patients as well. The competition will be similar to what Jamie Oliver tried in a primary school in the US. Here is the link to see how he got on.
  5. The launch of Pumping Marvellous at Burnley General Hospital - We will be launching Pumping Marvellous at Burnley General Hospital inviting local dignitaries, key medical teams, key support teams and of course Heart Failure Patients. Watch this space for a date.
  6. Patient Heart Failure Conference - We have just announced that we will be holding a Patient Heart Failure Conference at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel on 9th November 2011 - stands, sponsorship and speaking positions available
  7. Recipe Book - we will be developing a recipe book for Heart Failure Patients with local chefs and school children,  we already have Nigel Howarth at Northcote and Paul Sutton the Chef Patron at the Black Bull in Rimmington contributing recipes and we currently have requests out to Yu and You in Copster Green, Bukhara at Salmesbury and Ninos in Rawtenstall. The mainstay of the recipe book is, and we are in current discussions with Burnley Council, about setting up a competition for primary school children to contribute their own recipes with the finalists cooking off in a Masterchef style format with the chefs and others on the judging panel with the top 3 having their recipes published in the recipe book. Watch this space.
  8. Heart Failure Patients Toolkit - we need your help, email us with your ideas on what should be included in the toolbox, it will be given to Heart Failure Patients being discharged from hospital, think patient, think heart failure, we would really appreciate your ideas - this will be a lottery funded project and will really impact on the lives of Heart Failure Patients.il  - more below  -  -
