A Raw Water Master Plan Update:
Facilitator Chosen

Last April, NID announced that they were updating their Raw Water Master Plan (RWMP). The RWMP is a water management plan for the district that dictates how untreated water will be used by the District for the next fifty years. The plan hasn't been updated since 2011, and that plan informs NID's major projects. Projects like Centennial Dam.

NID has assured the community the RWMP will be a public process, and include input from stakeholders. Meanwhile, NID has continued to acquire property needed for the Centennial Project, demolished two structures, and budgeted an additional $2 million to spend on Centennial next year.

Now, however, NID has chosen a company to design and facilitate the RWMP process, without any public input, despite their earlier commitment to a open and transparent public process. Additionally, NID has increased their budget for the RWMP process from $500,000 to $1.1 million.

You are an important part of making the Yuba River Cleanup a success.

Register for the 21st Yuba River Cleanup today and join over 800 volunteers from our community, helping to keep our watershed clean. A clean river means a beautiful, healthy river and a healthy river in the Sierra Nevada can impact life downstream, all the way to the sea.

The Cleanup has been going strong for two decades. Over the past 20 years, we’ve hauled out nearly 220,000 pounds of garbage and recycling, that’s almost 110 TONS. This year the Yuba River Cleanup will cover more than 80 miles of rivers and creeks, and bring nearly 900 individuals and businesses together to clean 35 sites within the Yuba and Bear watersheds. We still have a few sites to fill and we need your help.

Can't Volunteer, Donate to a Clean-a-thon Team

Finding yourself unable to volunteer at the Cleanup but still want to be involved?  We all want the Yuba to be safe and clean but not all of us can volunteer.  You can still be a part of the team by giving to SYRCL’s Clean-a-thon. Your donation provides much-needed financial power so we can harness the people power for this critical community event.

With your support, we’re mobilizing 800+ volunteers to haul out 10-15 tons of trash along 80 miles of rivers, creeks and shorelines – from Marysville to Donner Summit.  It’s easy to support SYRCL’s on-the-ground efforts through the Clean-a-thon.

Riparian Trees & Shrub Walk at the Bear River:
A Success!

The walk was led by two plant experts: SYRCL’s River Science Project Manager Betsy Harbert and Wolf Creek Community Alliance biologist, Josie Crawford. Over 30 people learned to identify local species of trees and shrubs, their place in the river ecosystem, and how this area would be affected if the Centennial Dam is built.

Special thanks to Betsy and Josie for an incredible event! Stay tuned for more Bear River Excursions later this Fall.

  • When: Anytime, but sign up NOW to get started! Over 60 species have already been observed.
  • Why: This project allows us to track all the incredible wildlife in the Bear River Watershed that would be flooded by Centennial Dam.
Special thanks to SSI for this incredible project, we are so excited that there are such talented and incredible organizations working on the Bear - and look forward to more partnerships in the future.
