Nov. 20, Southern University Annual Fall Garden Workshop Baton Rouge - Southern University's Annual Fall Garden Workshop is coming up Tuesday morning! The workshop will be held tomorrow, November 20 at the M.A. Edmond Livestock Arena, Southern University Land-Grant Campus, 14600 Scenic Highway, Baton Rouge from 8:30AM-2PM. Topics this year include fruit tree & vegetable grafting, wine making, backyard birds, fall crops for the garden, and more! You won't want to miss it! Dec. 10, Farm Profitability Workshop St. Martinville - Join the LSU AgCenter and Louisiana SARE as we welcome Ellen Polishuk on December 10 for a whole farm profitability workshop. The workshop will be held at the UL Cade Farm at 1234 W J Bernard Rd in St. Martinville, LA. More details to come. This training will help you discover where the profits are on your farm, and where they're not! Find out if you're losing money with every bunch of carrots you sell. Jan. 15, Grow Louisiana Beginning Farmer Training Program
New Orleans - Want to be a farmer? Grow Louisiana is looking for beginning farmers in Louisiana to participate in the Grow Louisiana Beginning Farmer Training Program. Beginning Farmers are defined as current farmers with less than 10 years of growing experience, as well as those interested in becoming sustainable farmers, regardless of land ownership. The program will begin January 15, 2019 in New Orleans in the form of 3-hour sessions Tuesday evenings, 8 weeks in the spring and 8 in the fall. Grow Louisiana participants will also attend the annual SSAWG conference, which will take place in Little Rock, Arkansas January 2019. Jan. 25-26, SSAWG Annual Conference
Little Rock, Arkansas – This is the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group annual event, providing a forum to learn about sustainable farming techniques and marketing strategies, community food systems, and federal farm policies and programs that promote sustainable agriculture. This event also provides producers, researchers, information providers, concerned consumers and community organizers the opportunity to build networks, strengthen alliances, and celebrate the achievements of Southern sustainable farmers. The conference is, as always, loaded with practical information tailored for those in the South producing organic and sustainable food on a commercial scale and for those in our region working to improve local food systems. All conference sessions, pre-conference courses and field trips will be led by successful producers and well-respected educators and organizers from around the region with extensive knowledge and, more importantly, practical experience. Jan. 29, LFVGA Produce Safety Tour
Baton Rouge – Louisiana Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association will host a produce safety tour at the Burden Center in Baton Rouge.
