Hi Volunteers,

I’m sure that all of you are aware of the tornados that ripped through the Carolinas, even in our own Wake County. I sincerely hope you and yours are ok. Our Women & Children’s Emergency Shelter, located in downtown Raleigh, went without electricity for 24 hours, but thankfully everyone is alright.

There are many people without power, shelter, and food. In addition to our regular programs, we will be assisting those affected by the tornado. This will mean that not only will we hand out the bags of food to 50 families over the next several weeks but, we will at least double of not quadruple that number. We will also be handing clothing and furniture vouchers, as well as more appointments for financial assistance for individuals and families affected by the disaster. In order for this to happen, we need your help.

Food clothing and monetary donations will be accepted at all of our locations in Raleigh. Furniture donations will be accepted at our Family Store at 205 Tryon Road. Any financial contribution will stay here locally to serve those in need. The most immediate need is food donations. Because we are handing out so many extras bags, we will need that many more donations. We will begin to take donations Monday morning at 8am.

Volunteers are also needed to help accept and distribute donations at our Person Street facility and Family Store facility beginning Monday morning at 8am. Please contact me if you are interested in helping.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

My best,

Lizzy Adams
Volunteer and Resource Coordinator
