Cupcakes, the 4th of July, and Ordination

July, 2018

Greetings Ministers, Friends, and Family,

By the time this newsletter lands in your inbox, another Independence Day will have come and gone. And while those hot dogs and beers are hopefully wearing off, the spirit of the holiday should never fade from our hearts and minds. Here at AMM, our mission is to carry this country's Founding Fathers’ vision with us throughout the year. As a constitutional church, July 4th has a special significance. It’s an annual affirmation of the Universal Human Rights, of which marriage equality is a critical component!

Over the last few months, we’ve given these ideas some serious thought. It’s raised some important questions here at the office such as, what does marriage mean, and how does access to this venerable institution define us as a society?

We’re still answering those questions, and you can read what we have so far here, but we’d love to hear from you too. How has marriage empowered you and helped you accomplish your goals and realize your dreams? How has it made you a more active member of society?

Turning to more mundane matters, theamm.org continues to add cool new features every week. Since we were last in touch, we’ve added a “customized ceremony feature.” Here’s how it works. Once you register your wedding, our website produces a customized wedding ceremony script that can be further adapted to suit your needs. Once you are logged into the website, click on over to “my weddings,” and see check this new feature out.

As always, we feel particularly blessed to be part of such a profound moment in the lives of our ministers and the couples they serve. Our goal here at AMM is to empower you all to create community, join people together, and continually create and recreate this nation in the image of the Founding Fathers. If there’s any way we can realize this goal together, we’re only a telephone call or email away!

Yours,
Lewis King, AMM Director of Communications

Minister Spotlight

In the months since Jonny Diane Thompson become a Minister she witnessed the love and compassion of many couples. Each wedding is special and every couple’s journey to the altar is unique. She has officiated for couples that were just out of high school and others who’ve waited decades before being allowed to legally wed. Once she performed a wedding for a US service member and a firefighter at the Kansas fairgrounds. Afterwards, Jonny found out that the whole ceremony was live-streamed for out of town family and friends! While the story of how the couple reached the altar may be different, she sees that same joy and passion in each of them, as well as the same anticipation for the years ahead as a married couple.

Thompson is not only an officiant, but also a wedding planner. “I must say my whirlwind last minute weddings are probably my favorite. Sometimes I’m assisting with the plotting and planning to bring this couple together often in less than ten hours! It's a real honor to be requested to be a part of these paths, these journeys in life.”

Thompson says she’ll marry anyone from sunrise to sunset. Wherever and whenever the couple needs it to be, she’ll make it happen.

Although she’ll be tired at the end of the day, she is happy because, “I know in my heart and soul that each wedding, elopement, or commitment has had the best start I could possibly provide to them. Plus I always know I’ve got great support & backup from American Marriage Ministries just a call or message away.”

Asked to Officiate

Of the many products we offer to our ministers, Asked to Officiate (ATO), is the one of the most popular. ATO is an indispensable tool that guides you through the entire ceremony preparation and presentation process. Within the workbook, there is comprehensive information to help you through every step of being a minister, from writing the ceremony, managing its logistics, to making it legal.

AMM has been offering the book on our website since 2014 and our ministers have expressed their appreciation for its helpful suggestions. We had so much faith in the book that we took advantage of an opportunity to purchase the rights, made significant updates, and published it under our imprint. We put a lot of time and effort into updating the book to make it even more accessible. It has a new look and size, and best of all, a lower price.

If you don’t already have a copy, think about adding the ATO to your library.

News & Updates

Cupcakes

The cake has been a fixture of wedding receptions, but recently, couples have been bucking tradition and serving other desserts. A new favorite is the cupcake. Having a variety of flavor and frosting combos gives more options for guests with picky appetites. We spoke to our neighbors at Seattle’s own Cupcake Royal about this new sweet trend.
They told us that while Cupcake Royale offers a designated "Wedding Decor" themed dozen, "most of our customers just want to order our regular flavors for their special day.”

While cupcake orders for weddings are usually traditional, orders for bachelor and bachelorette parties can sometimes feature eyebrow-raising requests. Cupcake Royal does their best to accommodate, within reason ;)

Charity of the Month

Every month AMM donates $500 to a charity that we believe is doing great things for the world. This month in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness month AMM, will be donating to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the world, with more than 13 million cases diagnosed annually. Each year in the US there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon. Tragically, in the U.S. one person dies every hour of melanoma, one of the most dangerous forms of skin cancer.

The Skin Cancer Foundation is the only international organization devoted solely to combating the world's most common cancer, now occurring at epidemic levels.

To learn more about the Skin Cancer Foundation be sure to visit their website.

It was great to see you!!!

We want to thank everyone that made this years PrideFest so fun.  We had a blast meeting up with our current and future ministers. If you have more photos please share with us!!!
