John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams - April 2020 Newsletter
As we are all certainly facing unprecedented times, this was certainly not the way we thought 2020 would be, but would like to assure you, that while our programmes are currently postponed due to the school closures and lock-down, the programmes will continue once we have come out the other side of the Covid-19 virus situation.

We have been in touch with all our funders and programme providers to give assurance that it will not be an “if” but “when”, FYFOD will be ready to hit the ground running doing what we do best – making a difference in the lives of thousands of young children – those in most need.

Unfortunately we had to postpone our Principals Forum in March due to the then evolving Covid-19 situation. We will look to reschedule the event hopefully later in the year.  In the meantime, below is an insight into the happenings so far at FYFOD in 2020.

On behalf of Sir John, the Trustees and Management of Field of Dreams, please take care of your loved ones and yourself, we will get through this all together
Charity Golf Day
Friday 13th March saw 31 teams of eager golfers take to the fairways on a very sunny day at the Howick Golf Club to support our Charity Golf Day.  This was the first time the event was held at the Howick course and we would like to thank Rory and his staff for all their help.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Lisa Campbell and the fantastic team from Honda New Zealand for your continued support, sponsorship of the event and for putting up a 2020 Honda Civic Type R for the Hole in One. Unfortunately no one was able to drive-away with it.

A big thanks to Doug Mitchell & Shona Kebble from the Howick Photographic Society for giving their time and taking fantastic photos of the day.

Thank you once again to Craig McNair from Barfoot & Thompson who was our brilliant auctioneer and the following supporters, who provided volunteers, prizes, products/services or sponsored a hole, that made for such an outstanding day. Without your support, an event like this just can't happen.

Thank You to our Programme Funders
Our programmes would not be able to happen if it was not for the funding we receive from our generous funders. Funding will ensure we can get the programmes back into action once we are able.

We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the Four Winds Foundation who have provided us with ongoing funding for our Primary Sport programme.

THANK YOU to the Lion Foundation, whose continued belief in the Community Swim programme has awarded us this month with funding so that we can hit the ground running when lock-down is lifted so we can get the children active again.

The WERO Introduction to Fast Moving Water programme has also received funding, THANK YOU to the Auckland Maritime Foundation and Second Nature Charitable Trust.
Big Thanks to - New Buses
A huge THANK YOU again goes out to the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT), Grassroots Trust and the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust who have provided the funds for our 2 new replacement buses which arrived in the country earlier this year. The buses were due to go in for their branding right as we went into lock-down, so now we need to wait to see the final product once we start to return to our “new normal”.
Seeport – Auckland Anniversary Weekend
Over Auckland Anniversary Weekend, as part of the Stuff Events NZ (Ports of Auckland Round the Bays) the Ports of Auckland’s Seeport Festival was held on Captain Cook & Marsden Wharves. It was an extremely hot and busy weekend. The event was a three-day celebration of Auckland City’s beautiful waterfront and rich maritime heritage.

The family friendly festival is one of New Zealand’s largest free events. A big thank you to Brier and Joe for manning the stand for us and getting the public involved in fun activities along with the other charities.
Ports of Auckland - Round The Bays 2020
Our GM Rick Pickard was so delighted to receive a cheque at the start of this year’s Round The Bays fun run that was held on Sunday 8th March. We were so lucky to be chosen as one of the charities at the Ports of Auckland Round The Bays.

Over 34,000 people took part in the event on a brilliantly sunny day! Congratulations to all those involved in the whole event.
ASICS – Shoes to Schools
In February we had an amazing time, delivering Asics Sports shoes to the children at Jean Batten School, Chapel Downs School, Kelvin Road and Finlayson Park School through our awesome partnership with ASICS New Zealand and their Running to Make A Difference campaign. Greig Bramwell and Jason Niles from Asics took turns and joined us to make the presentations. The smiles on the kids faces was just so neat to see. Big thanks to Asics for supporting this initiative and partnering with us. Check out the awesome video that Asics have compiled on our partnership.
Thank You from Chapel Downs School
We had some amazing students from Chapel Downs Primary School visit us to say thank you for their new shoes through our partnership with ASICS New Zealand and to thank us for our Community Swim lessons. We were delighted to give them a bag of swimsuits kindly donated to us from Swim T3 and HPK Swimming Club and Swimgym

Would like to share the words from one extremely grateful student, which brought tears to our eyes

“Perfect is the word that comes to mind when I try to describe our gift. I couldn’t believe my eyes when we received our shoes for free. I feel very lucky and privileged to be chosen. I felt special for once. I do not own a pair of sneakers and now that I have these awesome shoes I wear them everyday for walking and running. The shoes have helped me run better and they protect my soft soles on my feet. My soles used to ache before. I can now play outside my house without getting hurt. I am now exercising more and keeping fit. Your generosity and gift is once in a lifetime and I really appreciate it and cannot thank you enough. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!” – A.L – Chapel Downs School
Goodbye and Thank You Katherine Sugarman
Community Swim Programme Manager
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Katherine Sugarman, who for the past 8 years has undertaken the role of Community Swim Programme Manager. Katherine left Swimgym at the end of the term. During her time with the programme she looked after the schools and pupils and had the programme running like clockwork.
We are going to miss her and the dedication she gave to the programme and fantastic support to FYFOD.
