CDI Student of the Month

Our November Student of the Month is Victor Carvajal-Lopez!

Victor proudly represented the CDI when he went out of his way to assist a Spanish-speaking student in translating a paper she had written in Spanish to English for a class she was taking. He even took the time to research the ESL classes being held in the community to help her become more proficient in the English language.

Currently, Victor is a Junior majoring in Psychology and minoring in Women/Gender Studies.

Finals Week

Finals Week is almost upon us, and we wanted to remind you all of the importance of self-care! Self-care is thrown around a lot as a magic bullet to solve all of your problems. If you’d only take a second to treat yourself, you’d be fine, but what does self-care really mean?

First, there’s a difference between self-care and self-soothing. Self-soothing involves activities that provide distraction and/or comfort in difficult times. Some examples are binge-watching TV, a bubble bath, fancy beverages, singing loudly, getting out into nature, time off from responsibilities, fresh flowers, cuddling, and exercise.

Self-soothing is incredibly important to our well-being. Sometimes, though, these activities may not actually get at stabilizing you, or creating opportunities for you to move forward.

Self-care, on the other hand, involves activities that help you find meaning and support your growth and groundedness. Some examples of this are going to therapy, meditating, exercising, napping, getting a massage, eating well for your body, and yoga.

Now that finals is coming and the stresses of this semester are piling up, please don't forget to take a little time for yourself and take a break. Remember, studying for a set amount of time and taking a break before you reset the clock is a much better way of studying than cram-studying for hours on end.

If you're looking for a place to take a break, come stop by the CDI! We have scantrons, brain food, and healthy energy drinks to keep you guys motivated and in top-notch condition to study.

Keep it up, and do your best. You've got this!

OUR MISSION
The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) exists to validate the multiple identities present on our campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. We provide emotional, social, and financial support to students from historically underrepresented communities (e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation college students, etc.)

The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings and cultural programming. The CDI invites members of the campus community to join in conversation about how to cultivate an inclusive, safe, and welcoming campus culture.
