Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy formed
Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy created to acquire, protect lands for nature preservation in historic Ontario area
 A new charitable organization has been created to acquire and permanently protect lands for nature preservation throughout the area of the historic Huron Tract. Land trusts are charities which accept donations or bequests of land to help conserve land through ownership or through conservation agreements with property owners. The Board of Directors for the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy has now been announced. The land trust’s first Chairman is Roger Lewington, of Bayfield. The board also includes: Steve Boles, of Exeter; Steve Bowers, of Brussels; Don Farwell, of Stratford; David Kemp, of Staffa; Tom McLaughlin, of Lucan; Burkhard Metzger, of Clinton; Peter Twynstra, of Ailsa Craig; and Philip Walden, of Thedford. |

One-time-only, one-of-kind art auction with a twist takes place November 24
Art collectors invited to donate art; Art auction supports Woodland Reflection Shelter pavilion
“The Woodland Reflection Shelter will be located along the South Huron Trail and it will be a special place to experience nature and remember loved ones,” said Ernie Miatello, Chairman of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation Board of Directors. “The ‘Collector to Collector’ Woodland Reflection Art Auction will be a unique opportunity for the community to support this worthwhile project and have the chance to acquire fine art donated from the collections of generous local donors.” The art auction event will include a live auction, silent auction, special ‘buy-now’ feature pieces, one complimentary drink ticket, and Hors d’oeuvres as well as a cash bar.Tickets are $5. in advance or $10 at the door. Watershed Tales writing competition returns for second year
Fourteen local students were recognized for their winning submissions in the first Watershed Tales writing contest. The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) has announced the student environmental writing competition is back for a second year. Students from Ausable Bayfield watershed schools, with an interest in writing and an interest in their local environment, now can submit poems, short stories or essays for the competition until November 30, 2011. All watershed schools are eligible. Community Conservation Strategy team to review final draft of strategy
The Conservation Strategy Development Team met from September 2010 to September of 2011. Members of the team will be reviewing the final draft of the document they created over the coming month or so and after final review it will then be forwarded to the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority Board of Directors for consideration. Congratulations on the productive year of work by this group of dedicated community volunteers - with 34 different people from the watershed community having taken part. The final document may be approved (pending), printed and released in time for the annual Conservation Awards evening held on March 15, 2012. The community group devoted to maintaining the South Huron Trail is holding its annual meeting and breakfast on Friday, November 4, 2011, at 9 a.m., at Huron Family Restaurant, Exeter, 134 Main Street South.

Popularity of Owl Prowl prompts organizers to give public two chances to attend
The incredible interest that the Owl Prowl event generates on Saturday nights in the past, has prompted Ausable Bayfield Conservation to host the annual Owl Prowl on two separate dates this year. The same program will be delivered on both nights, Friday November 4 and Saturday, November 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority Administration Centre workshop, two kilometres east of Exeter 71108 Morrison Line. Admission is free but donations are welcome and will support ABCA conservation education programs. Following the hike, there will be hot chocolate and a fire will be lit in an outdoor fireplace. Participants are asked to bring their own mugs to cut down on waste create from using disposable cups.
