What is in Our Hands?

The whole day isn’t in your hands right now — just this minute. There’s nothing to worry about in the past; it’s gone. The future is not in our hands. What is in our hands? The golden present.

God bless you. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.”    Sri Swami Satchidananda

How to Analyze Your Anger
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

When anger arises, the mind becomes deluded. The Bhagavad Gita has two beautiful slokas about this: From brooding on sense objects, attachment to them arises. Out of that attachment, personal desire is born. And from desire, anger appears. Anger confuses the thinking process, which in turn, disturbs memory. When memory fails, reasoning is ruined. And when reason is gone, one is lost. (2.62– 63).... When there is anger, there is also fear. It may be the fear of losing your life—death. If you understand what death is there is nothing to be afraid of. We have all had many bodies before. This body is just one of the many cars in which you have been driving.  MORE

The coronavirus is a poster child for the world we are living in now. Many think that climate change is the only existential threat. In fact the greatest threat of all is the Global Challenge—the completely unpredictable interaction of several dozen global stressors— environmental, social, and technological. The coronavirus illustrates how perfectly predictable threats (viral pandemics) disrupt profoundly interconnected and fragile global systems.... But fear, hopelessness, and cynicism aren’t the only choice in the face of this perfect storm.  MORE

During trying times, when facing life's challenges, we all need support. Here's one example of what that looks like. In this heartwarming viral video, students in a children’s karate class support one of their classmates as he struggles to break a board. This will warm your heart—and offer hope about the next generation!

Garuda, the Eagle god as depicted in the Mahabharata, is the vehicle that carries Lord Vishnu. Vishnu is the deity representing preservation, sustainability or, in a more tangible way, Garuda is the vehicle that carries the True Self. Garudasana, is a pose that requires balance, focus, and medial (internal) hip and shoulder rotation in order to “wrap” the arms and legs. This “wrapping,” balancing, and inward rotation pose is challenging for many Hatha Yoga students. Two senior Integral Yoga Teacher Trainers take us through the prep and pose in this illustrated article. Read here.

Yoga came as a gift and brought with it an unexpected transformation. It changed my body and it changed the way I breathe. It changed the way I move through the world. “You can tell the days you do Yoga and the days you don’t,” a friend observed. But this gift was not the kind I thought it was. It was like a Trojan Horse, except without deception in the giving. You see, suddenly, injury swept my gift away when one morning gravity and slick ice conspired to sever tendons. One doctor remarked, “That’s not a falling on the ice injury, that’s a falling out of an airplane injury.”  MORE

When a famous artist enters the Living Yoga Training (LYT) program anything can happen. Federico, known as Mas Paz ("more peace," in his native Spanish) stayed in Yogaville for 28 days as a LYT. His artwork has been featured at the Smithsonian Institution, the Corcoran Gallery Art, and New York City’s The New Museum, but his murals can be found as far away as Pakistan and Mexico. “I started kind of playing with this indigenous typography kind of style, which wasn’t graffiti letters but more like line work letters.” Here's the story.

In the new book Yoga and Veganism, Sharon Gannon—co-creator of the renowned Jivamukti Yoga method—weaves together a compelling exploration of the intersection between the spiritual practice of Yoga, physical health, care for the planet, and a peaceful coexistence with other animals and nature. Through clear and accessible language, Gannon unpacks the wisdom of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, one of the oldest and most revered texts focused on the philosophy of Yoga, and draws a fascinating course to greater enlightenment for the contemporary practitioner.  MORE
