Student of The Month
Congratulations to Nestor Zapata for being selected as the CDI Student of the Month! As Nestor's nominator noted, he is committed to unifying students on campus. Anyone who knows Nestor knows this statement to be true. Nestor spent the month of February running a student government campaign, forming a new CDI club, and supporting other CDI club events in addition to fulfilling school and job requirements. "I always see Nestor at CDI and school events," said one Beacon when discussing Nestor's involvement in student life on campus.
Nestor founded the Undocumented Migration Alliance (UMA) Club to serve the undocumented immigrant population of Cedar City. UMA is the only organization of its kind in Southern Utah. The club is open to all students who are interested in learning about the issues that undocumented individuals face and advocating for them.
UMA will meet this Thursday, March 7, 2019, at 6:00 pm in the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Room 101 in the Sharwan Smith Student Center. You can meet Nestor there.

Learn How to Become A Leader for the Leavitt Center Join us for a panel and discussion about leadership positions available in the Leavitt Center from CDI students who have served Thursday, March 7th at 5:30 PM in the CDI (ST 101). Nominate your outstanding peers, faculty, and staff members to be recognized at our CDI the End-of-The-Year Awards Banquet. Descriptions of the awards are described under the links. The deadline is March 31st.
The CDI is seeking essays that highlight the academic excellence of CDI students. Submissions can be creative or academic essays of any discipline. Winners will be honored at the End-Of-The-Year Banquet. Click here for details. The deadline is April 1st.

CDI Student of the Month(March) The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) is excited to highlight some the amazing students who are a part of the T-Bird family. This year we will begin a Student of the Month initiative where outstanding students can be nominated and featured throughout the month. Nominations will be accepted from any SUU faculty, staff, or student. Winners will be chosen by the CDI team and will be recognized physically in the CDI, in the electronic newsletter, and will be awarded a gift card in appreciation. OUR MISSION The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) exists to validate the multiple identities present on our campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. We provide emotional, social, and financial support to students from historically underrepresented communities (e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation college students, etc.)
The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings and cultural programming. The CDI invites members of the campus community to join in conversation about how to cultivate an inclusive, safe, and welcoming campus culture.
