Term 1 Newsletter 2019
As the first Term of the school year is coming to a close for the holidays and Easter, let us just take a moment to reflect on the tragic events that unfolded in Christchurch on 15th March.

A few days after the tragedy, Rick Pickard, General Manager of John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams was privileged to be invited to attend the Memorial Service for the Muslim community at Al Madinah School, by the principal Asin Ali.  As you would have seen on the television coverage, it was an incredibly moving Memorial Service, particularly seeing the anguish on all of the children’s faces and their uncertainty.

Al Madinah is New Zealand’s largest Muslim school and are participants of FYFOD’s programmes and we want to put some light back into the children’s lives and a smile on their faces.  With the fantastic support and involvement from local South Auckland organisations by either fully or partially subsidising, Second Nature Charitable Trust – Vector Wero Whitewater Park, YMCA – Camp Adair, Counties Manukau Sport, iSport Foundation, Butterfly Creek and Rainbows End, we are working together to provide activities for the children to enjoy with transportation provided by Brougham Bus Company.  We have also received fantastic financial support to help cover any costs.

Al Madinah will get to enjoy the activities in Term 2 and we cannot wait to see them all having a fantastic time.
Big Thanks to Auckland Council - New Buses
Some very exciting news this year!  We are so very grateful to the Auckland Council who have generously sponsored two new buses to replace the ones that we had been leasing for a number of years. You will see in the photo the buses are currently receiving their branding and are bright yellow. They will definitely stand out in the traffic.

Big thanks also to our supporters – The Lion Foundation, Water Safety NZ, Drowning Prevention Auckland, Swimgym, Vector Wero Whitewater Park and a real special thanks to Platform29 for designing the branding, it looks awesome!
New Videos
After a busy couple of months filming with fantastic involvement from our programme providers, a number of schools and athletes involved in our programmes, we have produced some fantastic videos that we can share with you over the coming weeks.

A big thank you to the Grassroots Trust for funding this project and Black Swan Media for producing such amazing videos.  We must also thank Arch Jelley – Sir John’s Life Long Coach, who is in his 90’s for catching a taxi from West Auckland to Manurewa to be involved!

We have just launched our overview of the Foundation video on our Facebook page, so if you have not seen it, click on the link or picture above and enjoy!  JWFYFOD Video  Do not forget to Like our page if you have not already.
Swim T3 – Swim Suits Donation
WOW we are absolutely blown away by the generosity of Chris, Sharan and the team from Swim T3, who have donated hundreds of swimsuits to our Community Swim programme. There are so many families in our community struggling to afford the cost of a swim suit. So many children are going to benefit from this donation and we look forward to distributing them in Term 2.
Funders
2019 has had a fantastic start with funding received from The Lion Foundation, Four Winds Foundation, Trillian Trust, North & South Trust, Second Nature Charitable Trust, The Trust Community Foundation, Grassroots Trust and Akarana Community Trust.  A Big Thank You, this funding is so vital to keep our amazing programmes running.
Golf Day
Friday 15th March saw 29 teams of eager golfers take to the fairways on a very sunny day at the Whitford Golf Club to support the Foundation at our Charity Golf Day.

A HUGE thank you to Honda New Zealand for your continued support and sponsorship of the event and the Foundation.

Unfortunately no one managed to get the Hole in One and drive away in the 2019 Honda Civic Type R.

Thank you to Craig McNair from Barfoot & Thompson who was our brilliant auctioneer and the following supporters, who provided volunteers, prizes, products/services or sponsored a hole, that made for such an outstanding day. Without your support, an event like this just can't happen.

Hampton Downs 2 Hour Racetrack Run
An amazing event is going to take place on June 9th, as we have joined forces with Hampton Downs who are long time supporters of FYFOD, and Papakura Athletics to host a 2 Hour Racetrack Run.  The event is open to all ages and fitness levels for runners and walkers, and provides such a unique opportunity to challenge yourself on the 2.7 km motor sport racetrack.

We are extremely grateful for being selected as their chosen charity to receive the proceeds from this event.

Check out the event page for all the details and to enter.  Racetrack Run
