Plan for Water Update:
NID Finalizes Request for Proposals to Design Public Process

For the last four months, NID has renewed the process to update the Raw Water Master Plan (RWMP), also known as the Plan for Water. The RWMP is an important District plan that will update the hydrology, water supply and projected water demand for our community for the next fifty years.

This Wednesday, the NID Board will review and approve a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a consultant to design the public process surrounding the update to the RWMP. This is an important, informative first step in the update process because it determines the quality of the consultant, which in turn informs the quality of the public process and outcome of the final RWMP.

SYRCL thanks NID for the opportunity to give feedback on the draft RFP earlier this month, and for integrating the suggestion of widening the definition of stakeholders to include both Nevada and Placer Counties. While we were disappointed a majority of our suggested edits were not integrated into the final document, we are still appreciative of the District's recent effort towards transparency.

Want to know more? Check out our edits in the version presented at the Water and Hydroelectric Operations Committee meeting here, and compare it with the version to be presented this Wednesday.

Once the RFP is approved, NID will solicit proposals for consultants over the summer and have the best proposals presented during a public Water and Hydroelectric Operations Committee meeting. Stay tuned for more updates soon.

Other interesting topics will be explored during the meeting, such as NID's stance towards water rights and a quarterly review of the 2019 NID Budget. Want to learn more? Check out the Board Agenda and join us this Wednesday.
