Is this a behavior or a medical issue?

I received a phone call from a client I had not heard from in a year or two. They had taken a Puppy Preschool Class with me and had since added another dog to the family. They had been having some trouble over the past six months. One family member was ready to relinquish their dogs. The other called me for help in an effort to resolve the issue and maintain harmony in the home.

Is your dog suddenly afraid of familiar things?

If you have read about puppy development stages online or in books, you most likely have heard of a fear period that puppies can experience between 8 and 11 weeks of age. I cover it in my upcoming book, Juvenile Delinquent Dogs: The Complete Guide to Saving Your Sanity and Successfully Living with Your Adolescent Dog , to be published in February 2012. Some puppies will experience it. Others don’t seem to. However, it occurs often enough that it is a well-accepted stage of development.

Her designations include: approved Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator; Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants; Certified Professional Dog Trainer through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers; and, a Professional Member and the Greeter for the State of Colorado of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

Ed’s background is leading consumer product/service companies, from start-up through exit. He has a strong skill set in marketing, sales, branding, product development and finance. He splits most of his time between The Light Of Dog and Love My Dog Training, but also provides consulting to start-up and small consumer product companies and owns a small tree farm where he and Sue live. Ed has an MBA from the University of Denver
