Happy (almost) Earth Day!
A great time to re-evaluate our relationship with our planet & the ways we as a society are acting to harm it. Sometimes it can be hard to know where to start & how to get involved- we are always looking for more active members in our working groups or get in touch with any colleagues or friends you have in IDE/contact our committee members or social media to find out more!

Earth Day petition

We are delivering a petition to Dáil Éireann tomorrow, Earth Day, requesting urgent inclusion of climate action in all policy making, reduction of emissions & safeguarding of clean air & water for all citizens.
Last chance to join over 300 healthcare professionals by signing tonight!

Climate ambition ≠ climate action

Our government and policy makers continue to claim lofty aims to reduce our carbon footprint but time after time, small scale plans such as cycleways are derailed by short sighted local ambitions.
We know time to act it short, we must continue to demand more, and that is one of the aims of our petition to Dáil Éireann

Turf wars

IDE were very disappointed with the news of a "pause" on the proposed ban on sale of commercial turf.  Burning of solid fuels, and particularly peat, is one the largest contributors to particulate matter pollution in Ireland. Air pollution contributes to 1300 deaths yearly in Ireland, with added morbidity in stroke, dementia and chronic respiratory and cardiovascular illness.
Not to mention the vast carbon stores of our bogs and their unique biodiversity. We continue to call for financially supported transition to alternative heating sources.

Overshoot Day April 21 2022

If the entire world lived like Ireland, we would use up all our annual resources today!
We often hear the narrative that Ireland is a "small, green" country, and it's China we should be worried about, so this certainly challenges that preconception! Climate breakdown is a global problem, and we all must act.
