Green Built Guide: June 2022

Final Deadlines This Week to Ensure Your Membership is Active and Ads are Reserved for 2022 Green Building Directory

We are entering the final stages of preparing our 2022 Green Building Directory. With 25,000 copies distributed at 100 spots in Western North Carolina, this directory is a great way to share your company's offerings in the broader community and market your brand for high visibility in a targeted demographic.

We include listings for all members at the business level and higher, and these are the final days to ensure you are set to receive maximum visibility in our latest issue publishing this summer.
  1. Make sure your ads are reserved by Thursday. Review ad ratesthen email sophia.b@smokymountainnews.com to reserve. The ad deadline is this Thursday, June 30.

  2. Confirm your membership is active by Friday. Whether you're joining for the first time or renewing after a lapse, there's no better time to become a member and benefit from all the related marketing exposure. For inclusion, all memberships must be active as of this Friday, July 1.

As our industry continues to expand, the annual Green Building Directory offers a unique opportunity to position your company for future growth and increase market share. Confirm your presence in our directory and help our nonprofit advance regional awareness of green building, sustainability and your company's services.

ICYMI: GBA Hosts Bill McKibben at Fundraiser for Neighbor to Neighbor Solar

Earlier this month, our nonprofit had the honor of hosting Bill McKibben, Gandhi Peace Award winner and environmental scholar, to speak at a fundraiser for our Neighbor to Neighbor Solar program. McKibben relayed his vision for climate change action and shared what keeps him motivated and hopeful alongside moderator Lauren Steiner, host of the Robust Opposition.

Last year, our Neighbor to Neighbor Solar program installed 12 systems for low-income residents, reducing utility bills for those who face the highest energy burden. We hope to install 20 more in the next two years. This year’s installer is Green Built Alliance member Sugar Hollow Solar, based locally in Buncombe County.

The event sold out and raised more than half the amount needed to install our next solar system for a local family in need! Special thanks go to Bill McKibben, Lauren Steiner, New Belgium Brewery, Biltmore Winery, Malaprop’s Bookstore, music by Zoe & Cloyd, and catering by Sage & Spice for making this fundraiser possible.

Save the Date for Green Built Alliance's
Annual Party and CiderFest Fundraiser

After two years of limited opportunities to gather as a community, we look forward to reuniting at two of our annual events we plan to bring back this fall for the first time since 2019.

We're excited to be planning our annual member appreciation and networking party for Wednesday, Sept. 7 at French Broad Outfitters' Hominy Creek outdoor location along the river.

As always, this after-work party is open to the public and will include free food, live music and a cash bar along to celebrate the past years' work of our nonprofit and the release of our 2022 Green Building Directory magazine. And, to make up for lost time, we're adding a mid-afternoon paddle down the river. Our partners at French Broad Outfitters are offering a generous discount on their normal rates for this trip and it will serve as a fundraiser for GBA.

Please also save the date for our annual CiderFest NC fundraiser, which will return on Saturday, Oct. 8 in a new location at our members' at Olivette Community and Farm's riverside venue.

Watch newsletters later this summer for details and to RSVP!
