Green Built Guide: June 2021

Don't Miss This Month's Deadlines to Confirm Your Spot in 2021 Directory

We are now in the process of planning our 2021 Green Building Directory. With 25,000 copies distributed at 100 spots in Western North Carolina, this directory is an excellent way to share your company's offerings in the broader community and market your brand for high visibility in a targeted demographic.

This is a great opportunity to plan ahead strategically for future marketing, as it will be distributed on newsstands from fall 2021 to summer 2022. We include listings for all members at the business level and higher, and there are several ways to benefit from even more visibility in our issue publishing this summer.
  1. Place an ad or enhance your listing. Review ad ratesthen email hylah@smokymountainnews.com to reserve. FINAL DAYS: The deadline is coming up this Friday, June 18.

  2. Become a member. Whether you're joining for the first time or renewing after a lapse, there's no better time to become a member and benefit from the related marketing exposure. FINAL WEEKS: Renew or join by the end of the month.

As our industry continues to expand, the annual Green Building Directory offers a unique opportunity to position your company for future growth and increase market share. Confirm your presence in our directory and help our nonprofit advance regional awareness of green building, sustainability and your company's services.

Save the Date to Celebrate 20-Year Anniversary at Our Annual Party

After a year of limited opportunities to gather as a community, we look forward to reuniting at our annual member appreciation and networking party on Thursday, Sept. 9 at French Broad Outfitters' Hominy Creek outdoor location along the river.

We'll have lots to celebrate:
  • Green Built Alliance's 20-year anniversary as a nonprofit
  • Green Built Homes' milestone of 2,000 projects certified
  • The release of our 2021 Green Building Directory magazine
Please mark your calendars to save the date now, and stay tuned for further details. As always, this after-work party is open to the public and will include free food, live music and a cash bar.

And, since we have so much to celebrate this year, we're adding a mid-afternoon paddle down the river. Our partners at French Broad Outfitters are offering a generous discount on their normal rates for this trip and it will also serve as a fundraiser for GBA.

Watch next month's newsletter for details and to RSVP!
Program Updates

Our Blue Horizons Project team has spent the first half of this year hard at work on the Solarize Asheville-Buncombe campaign. The campaign has had record-setting enrollment, and we are especially excited for the unique Neighbor to Neighbor solar component.

Through a combination of public and private funds, this initiative is providing grants to local homeowners living on a fixed or limited income to cover some or all of the cost of a small solar array.

The Housing Authority of Asheville hired Energy Savers Network for a pilot program through May and June that may open up the door to collaboration in the future. We need volunteers to help us provide quick and easy but remarkably effective energy-efficiency upgrades to these 1,000 units. Measures include:

  • Installing low-flow water fixtures (aerators)
  • Replacing light bulbs with LEDs
  • Caulking air leaks
  • Designing replaceable furnace filters
  • Vacuuming and sealng air ducts with Mastic
Volunteers can complete projects on any weekday of their choice. This is a great opportunity for students building their resume or for anyone wanting to help their community while learning energy efficiency. Plus, volunteers get a free Energy Savers Network T-shirt!
