The Virtue of Humility

Grain is hard and the heavy heads often bend forward. It's the mature plants that will bend. Immature plants will stand up. But any grain that is really ripe will always bend down. It is humble, because it is heavy. Anything that is heavy, or full, will bend down. That itself is a great virtue that everyone should develop.

Understanding Yourself and God
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

In the Sanskrit language, God is defined as satyam, sivam and sundaram. Satyam means Truth. What is, is God. God is always. That means there is the is in everything. The is exists even before the flower. The is becomes the flower. It is a flower, it is a microphone. That is a baby. So that is—or the existence—is what you call Truth. Sivam means the pure essence that is Consciousness itself. Consciousness is always pure, always neutral. By purity we mean uncolored, without any spots.  MORE

In a series of short articles, Swami Asokananda will share his insights from years of study of, and contemplation on, the great Indian scripture the Bhagavad Gita.
The Gita is 700 verses from the longest poem ever written: the Mahābhārata. The Mahābhārata is attributed to a sage named Vyāsa, although it’s pretty clear that it was written by a number of people over the centuries. And the myth is that Vyāsa went to Lord Ganesha and asked him if he could write whatever came through Vyāsa... MORE

The Joy of Self-Caring
By Cyndi Lee

Before everybody started talking about self-care, they talked about detoxing. The programming director for a huge Yoga conference told me that if I wanted my classes to sell out, I just had to put the word “detox” in the title. This consumeristic approach to ancient yogic practices was accurate in some ways: a need had been identified and a solution proposed. We feel incomplete, unloved, inadequate, and definitely not fit enough.... What our suffering really deserves is compassion.  MORE

Long-time Integral Yoga community member and Karma Yogi, Mary Klipp, shares her story of how she first began her Yoga journey. "My Yoga journey began with a promise I made to my son Josh’s plea to promise him to “Just try it, Mom. Just try it.” Okay, okay, I said, “I promise.” And, Mary's son made this amazing video "Mom's Secret Life of Trashing" that went viral. Completely narrated by Mary this video shares her work and is a beautiful example of her service in the world. Thank you Mary for your dedication.  MORE

I started going to Yoga classes about four years ago and instantly fell head over heels in love with it. I had never been strong or fast or sporty but going to Yoga taught me that I am very flexible, and I loved the feeling of stretching. I thought I was pretty good at Yoga because I could bend my body into all these new shapes and get my head to touch the floor, or sit comfortably in the splits, so I decided I would complete a Yoga teacher training course.  MORE

Alabama's Rep. Jeremy Gray offered a proposal to overturn its 27-year ban on Yoga in schools and Gov. Ivey just signed it into law! It allows public school boards the option of teaching Yoga—albeit in a form far removed from the classic class settings that keen yogis will recognize. It’s still outlawing chanting, mantras like “Om” and the traditional greeting “Namaste.” The state banned Yoga in December 1993 because lawmakers deemed it a “Hindu philosophy and method of religious training.”  MORE
