Pitts Theology Library

July, 2021
Greetings from Pitts Theology Library!

It goes without saying that the extensive and diverse collection at Pitts is due in part to the institution’s continuing conversation with Candler and Emory’s students, faculty, and staff. Our acquisitions should first and foremost support the present and future teaching, research, and service missions of the Candler School of Theology, as well as those of the Graduate Division of Religion and Emory University.

In consideration of the above, Pitts is expanding its reach about ongoing acquisitions and new resources by providing each tract with monthly reports via the New Acquisitions Newsletter.

Please find newly released resources in the Biblical Studies tract below, and don’t hesitate to make purchase suggestions by visiting pitts.emory.edu/suggest.

Canones: The Art Of Harmony: The Canon Tables Of The Four Gospels by Alessandro Bausi De Gruyter

Intended as a technical device for structuring, organizing, and navigating the Four Gospels, the ancient "Canon Tables" were a highly complex combination of text, numbers, and images that became an integral part of biblical manuscripts.  Author Alessandro Bausi explores their origin, meaning, and function in Canones.

Out of The Shadows: Preaching The Women of The Bible by Kate Bruce SCM Press

Biblical stories are most often told as the story of men, from patriarchs to prophets, kings, disciples and apostles. But women are also there in the background, sometimes striding powerfully onto the stage. Out of the Shadows seeks to enable preachers to see marginal characters in biblical stories in a new light, offering ideas about how to communicate their stories with power and resonance.
