This Wednesday at 5:30 pm, please join us for an impromptu music reading with my fellow Mistral members, in Knyvet Square, Brookline, on the corner of Thatcher and St. Paul Streets. Bring blankets/lawn chairs and friends!
Dear friends and music lovers,

I hope you had a beautiful summer. Thank you so much to all of you who helped make last season a success—to our musicians who played splendidly for tiny appreciative audiences (and sometimes just for the video camera); and to so many of you who viewed our virtual concerts. Some of you even sat down with friends to watch them, and engaged with us in real time through your heartwarming comments. This meant the world to us.

I apologize for my long silence, but I wanted to wait until I had news to share about our upcoming 25th anniversary season. We were crossing our fingers that we would be able to share music under the same roof once again.

And we will! We have lined up exciting programs worthy of our 25th anniversary. But given the continuing uncertainty, we are taking them one at a time without offering subscriptions in order to see how things will develop.

For the first concert, we will be performing at Kehillath Israel, at 384 Harvard Street in Brookline - in their social hall, not the main sanctuary. We will require a showing of vaccination cards, masks, and distanced seating. We are limiting the seating to 125 people, which is less than half the normal capacity. We hope that you will feel comfortable with these policies. (The concert will be video-recorded as well for later broadcast.)

WE WILL BE SENDING AN EMAIL SOON WITH TICKET INFO
In the meantime, here are all our dates in Brookline. I am sorry to tell you that West Parish Church in Andover is still not allowing people into the sanctuary at this time, and no dates have been booked there yet for that reason. As soon as this changes, we will add the Saturday performance in Andover to this list below.
SEPTEMBER 19 (TIME TBD: 5 pm or 7pm):  YOUTH & EXPERIENCE
Fauré: Piano Trio, Mendelssohn: String Quintet in A (in a flute arr.) Samuel Coleridge Taylor: "Fantasiestucke"

Three masterworks of the chamber music repertoire, one written by a composer the end of his life (Fauré) & the other two when they were teenagers (Mendelssohn & Samuel Coleridge Taylor)

NOVEMBER 14: PARISIAN WINDSCAPE FANTASIES
Poulenc: Sextet for piano & winds, Françaix: L’Heure du Berger for piano & winds, Conneson: Sextet for winds, piano & strings
DECEMBER 5: THE BAROQUE BIG BAND
Baroque concertos with dazzling soloists taking turns in the limelight!
FEBRUARY 13: NO ORDINARY WOMEN
Gwyneth Walker, Fanny Mendelssohn, Louise Ferrenc, Florence Price, Augusta Holmes, Elizabeth Brown
Three centuries of extraordinary women composers

APRIL 24: TALES FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Rimsky-Korsakov: Sheherazade & 1001 Arabian Nights (chamber arrangement), Spohr: Nonet, Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite, Fauré: Pelleas et Mellisande, Sibelius: Pelleas & Melisande

Those of you who follow us on Facebook saw that Sophie, Sasha and I gave a concert together in Provence. I did feel very guilty towards all of you back in Brookline, as it's been so long since we've had a true concert experience like this. But I want you to know that it didn't mean a thing to us, and we thought about you the whole time! :)
If you subscribe to our YouTube channel, you will be notified when a new video goes live. We deeply miss our personal connection but are pleased to stay engaged with you in this way.

PS. If you missed any of our last season's virtual concerts, they are all still available free of charge on our YouTube channel, both as the complete concert and as individual pieces that can be played separately. Below are photos from four concerts. Each photo is a link that you can click on to play on Youtube.
We need your generosity more than ever. If you would like to help, please click BELOW. (Please note, Mistral is using a new ticketing and donation system run by Arts People.)
