Expanded Consciousness

Everything has Consciousness. But the degree of expanded Consciousness varies. Consciousness is the most expressed or expanded in human beings, offering greater opportunity for awakening.  Swami Satchidananda

How Mantras Work
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

In 1976, Swami Satchidananda was giving a talk on Yoga in Denver, Colorado. Yoga was something that wasn’t widely practiced, or understood, in its broader and deepest sense at that time—and in large part, still isn’t today. And, the use of mantras in meditation, chanting and kirtan was even less known in the 1970s. So, when he was asked to give a talk on this subject, he spoke not only the science behind the practice, but the spiritual impact of mantras on the energy body.  MORE

These Sanskrit slokas are from the Vedas and other sacred texts. Swami Satchidananda recommended chanting these prior to a meditation session to help us connect to the Guru-tattva principle. This principle teaches that there's a capacity within Consciousness to awaken itself. When we're able to connect more deeply with this principle, we'll see everyone and everything as Guru. "All of nature is a book of knowledge. Draw silent lessons from all around you."

Busy, Busy, Busy is Unhealthy Business
By Séan Levahn

For decades I’ve been ‘that guy’ who answers, “BUSY” when someone asks how I am doing. “BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!” What an outright deflection of the truth! Alice in Wonderland, anyone?"The hurrier I go, the behinder I get."  (The White Rabbit, Lewis Carrol). The lockdowns of 2020 and virtual shutdown of my business three times in less than a year has shown me that being BUSY as my default mode was slowly killing me. It was eroding my sense of reality and inner peace. Skewing my understanding of wants versus needs.  MORE

Yoga Nidra: Portal to Our Essence-Nature
By Julie Lusk, MEd, E-RYT-500, NCC

Julie Lusk's new book, Yoga Nidra Meditations: 24 Scripts for True Relaxation, is an ideal resource, and includes Swami Satchidananda's Guided Relaxation.
Yoga Nidra is “yogic sleep.” It’s a profoundly healing and empowering meditation that starts with six levels of relaxation and deeply restorative rest done lying down for a joyful meditative experience. Yoga Nidra shines because it blends Yoga’s ancient and modern wisdom teachings with proven state-of-the-art tools and techniques that are unifying and uplifting to the body, mind, and spirit.  MORE

Meditation is My Temple
By Mellara Gold

Keep it simple,” said the Dalai Lama. “There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; our philosophy is kindness.” Meditation is the 7th limb of Yoga in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. These 8 steps basically act as guideposts on how we can live a more meaningful and purposeful life. They invite us to live a moral and ethical existence as we bring our attention towards ourselves to live ‘healthy’ in all the many understandings of this word.  MORE
