Community Groups to Receive White House Funding to Boost Vaccine Acceptance

PHI's Communities RISE Together is among the community partnerships selected by the Biden administration to receive government funding to promote vaccine acceptance. Dr. Somava Saha, a RISE leader, said the administration's decision "flips it from 'trust us' to 'we trust you.'" The funding ($125 million awarded to 14 organizations reaching underserved communities) was made possible by the American Rescue Plan and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Chevron Earns Top Human Rights Honors for LGBTQ+ Workplace Equality


The Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2022 Corporate Equality Index has given Chevron a score of 100 on its annual report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. This is the 17th straight year that Chevron has earned top marks. Chevron's longstanding legacy of diversity and inclusion includes being the first company in the oil and gas industry to include sexual orientation and gender identity in its Equal Employment Opportunity policies (1993) and the first to offer domestic partner benefits (1998) and fully inclusive transgender wellness benefits (2011). What Is Needed for Digital Health to Thrive?


Resonance's Global Health Practice Lead Marissa Gilman moderated a panel discussion on digital health in emerging markets—and the obstacles that prevent digital health from flourishing. The discussion explored the environments and ecosystems that digital health needs to thrive—from regulation to internet access, data standards, and other foundational elements. The panel included leaders from the Novartis Foundation, Rwanda's Ministry of Health, The Global Fund and Microsoft Research. White Coats for Global COVID Equity


As founding members of White Coats for Global COVID Equity, UCSF's Monica Gandhi, UC Davis' Michael Wilkes, and Amir Mohareb from Massachusetts General Hospital join their health care colleagues around the country in advocating for increased access to vaccines in low-income countries. They recommend various measures to achieve vaccine equity, including patent waivers, more equitable vaccine distribution, accelerated surplus donations, and coordinated distribution strategies, among others. The group has recently endorsed a Call to Action formulated by the Trade Justice Education Fund and California Trade Justice Coalition. Erin Sietstra leads Hopelab's social impact investments in programs that advance the mental health of teens and young people, particularly BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth. On this recent BYOB podcast, Erin spoke about the alarming decline in mental health among youth during the pandemic and about her own journey to Hopelab and the organization's investment and partnership initiatives. Insights Dialogue: Social Media Listening for Improved Vaccine Acceptance


Join us for the third Insights Dialogue on February 23. Titled "Social Media Listening for Improved Vaccine Acceptance," the live engagement will feature a panel of experts who will share tools and resources designed to help you implement and use social listening data in your own work to promote vaccine acceptance. We will hear from Minority Rights Group on their Diversity: Impact on Vaccine Equality (DIVE) project, which is using data from social listening to improve efforts to drive vaccine confidence and access in Sri Lanka, and 19 to Zero, which is using natural language processing to develop effective messaging for vulnerable populations in Canada. Both groups were awarded Vaccine Confidence Fund grants by the Alliance for Advancing Health Online (AAHO), an initiative to advance public understanding of how social media and online engagement can be leveraged to improve the health of communities around the world. The Sabin Vaccine Institute and Bay Area Global Health Alliance are working together to support the AAHO.
