Committee Updates

The PATH research committee is currently working on brainstorming and developing new ideas for studies. One future endeavor will be to redesign the Redcap survey for the LIFT education curriculum. Another possible future project will focus on retrospective assessment of our LIFT and Sustain attendees to assess proficiency. We are also continuing our efforts to connect with HEAL leaders and discuss future study ideas. The current chair of the committee is Minka Gil and the assistant co-chair is Imaima Casubhoy.

Prior Research Projects:

  • The Impact of Human Trafficking Training on Health Professionals’ Knowledge and Attitudes was published in April/May in the Journal of Medical Education & Curricular Development (Sarah Hofer, Emily Anderson, Sahar Caravan, Dr. Geynisman)
  • Jennifer Talbot is working on a national Surrey of US Medical Schools regarding human trafficking curriculum.
  • A manuscript that assess training of surgical residents regarding human trafficking is being finalized by Sneha Aidasani
  • The Physician Resilience project is in the statistical analysis stage. Researchers are working on developing and honing the manuscript with the target journal being the JAMA network open.
The public relations subcommittee has welcomed Jessica Poirier as their new student leader. Jessica is a Canadian IMG interested in going into primary care. If you are interested in joining the public relations team, email ineza.poirier@gmail.com

Student Spotlight

The February Student Spotlight highlights Rebecca Song. Rebecca Song is an EMT in Brooklyn, NY, and proudly serves as our AMWA-PATH intern. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Northeastern University in Boston. As a survivor of cultural gender-based violence and familiar identity theft, she actively coordinated fundraisers to support local domestic violence organizations and facilitated campus events to raise awareness for the cause. Many of these organizations provided services and shelter for survivors of both domestic violence and human trafficking. Rebecca joined our PATH team last summer; her favorite part of being an intern is recruiting old acquaintances and community organizations as panelists for LIFT events. Before working as an EMT, Rebecca spent much of her gap years teaching grade-school students. She plans to continue her own education as a nontraditional med applicant in the coming year. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, trying out new desserts and attempting to remake them in her kitchen.
