The Story Behind Gustav Klimt’s Shimmering Symbolist Painting ‘The Kiss’

Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss" was inspired by his trip to Italy. It is undoubtedly his most famous painting. "The Kiss" depicts a couple in golden outfits, locked in an intimate embrace and surrounded by a field of flowers. The image explores the intense relationship between a man and a woman. The work was bought by the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, Austria, even before it was completed.
